<p>Gabe Watkins, one of Thailand’s rising artists, is back with a new song called “Feels Like Home” to captivate the hearts of music lovers across the globe — and it seems he’s more than ready to conquer the world and go bigger.</p><div><br/></div><div><iframe class="instagram-media instagram-media-rendered" id="instagram-embed-0" src="https://www.instagram.com/p/Ctq_qHeNWRU/embed/?cr=1&amp;v=14&amp;wp=540&amp;rd=https%3A%2F%2Fent-workbench-web.abs-cbn.com&amp;rp=%2F#%7B%22ci%22%3A0%2C%22os%22%3A2013093.6999999993%2C%22ls%22%3A2012801.4000000022%2C%22le%22%3A2013037%7D" allowtransparency="true" allowfullscreen="" frameBorder="0" height="857" data-instgrm-payload-id="instagram-media-payload-0" scrolling="no" style="background:white;max-width:540px;width:calc(100% - 2px);border-radius:3px;border:1px solid rgb(219, 219, 219);box-shadow:none;display:block;margin:0px 0px 12px;min-width:326px;padding:0px"></iframe></div><script async="" src="//www.instagram.com/embed.js"></script><div><br/></div><p>Before the release of his song, PUSH caught up with Gabe for an interview where he talked about his humble beginnings, his passion for music, and what’s next for him as an artist.</p><p>The 21-year-old singer said he knew he wanted to become an artist at an early age, with his Dad’s love for music paving the way to ignite his interest in the craft.</p><p>“I would say it all started from an early age. I was brought up in a pretty musical household—my Dad would play his old records around the house and play the guitar. I’ve always loved music, but I never really took it seriously until high school probably. I was in a band with my best friends,” he told PUSH.</p><p>But it wasn’t until Gabe met a friend of his from school that he realized he could write, marking the beginning of his passion for writing music.</p><p>“At the time, our sound engineer at school ‘Toon’ (who’s now the guitarist in one of Thailand’s most popular bands - Three Man Down) asked me if I’d ever tried writing my own songs. At this point I didn’t really think I could sing, let alone write my own stuff. But one day after school we started writing, and I just fell in love with it from there,” he shared.</p><p>When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, that’s when Gabe started producing his own songs, before eventually moving to London to pursue his studies.</p><p>“COVID hit right around my graduation, so I took a gap year and spent it just working on music—I was writing songs, learning how to produce on my laptop. It was during that year that I decided being an artist was something I really wanted to do. I released a couple singles independently before going off to university in London,” he said.</p><p>With his innate talent in music, it was only a matter of time before he got signed under a record label. True enough, it happened before he even realized it.</p><p>“And halfway through my first year there, I caught the attention of a record label in Thailand—What The Duck. I’d never dreamed of being signed and the opportunity was too good to pass up, so I moved back to Thailand in 2022 to pursue music as a career. And here we are now, just a couple months away from my debut EP. It’s so surreal to me,” he said.</p><p>Describing his music, he said: “In terms of the music I make I would describe it as indie pop. It’s kind of just a blend of everything I’m into. From LANY to Phoebe Bridgers to Mac Miller and Coldplay. I make the kind of music I like to listen to.”</p><p>Unlike most of his contemporaries, Gabe also writes and produces his own songs — a testament to his edge as an indie pop artist.  </p><p>“I love writing songs and I also love producing. There’s no better feeling than searching for hours to find a particular sound you want for a song—and then finding it. I think music is a lot about how it makes you feel—and I think producing is a huge part of that, so I’d say it’s an edge for me,” he said.</p><p>“I think my music also stands out for that same reason. From the production, to the melodies and lyrics I’m always trying to craft certain feelings with my music. Whether that’s happy or sad or whatever emotion it is—I think my music has a distinct quality and holds the power to heal,” he added.</p><p>Gabe, who is half Australian, grew up in Thailand and eventually studied in London. For him, his exposure to different cultures definitely shaped the artist he is today.</p><p>“I think just being exposed to all the different cultures, the people, the music. All these places, and people I’ve met have played a huge role in shaping me as an artist. The exposure to different cultures as well has given me a cool perspective that influences how I see and interpret the world,” he remarked.</p><p>He went on: “It&#x27;s made me appreciate the beauty of different cultures and has taught me to draw inspiration from a wide range of sources. So yeah, being exposed to different cultures has definitely shaped me into the artist I am today, and I&#x27;m grateful for all those experiences.”</p><p>Having released numerous songs over the last few years, Gabe admitted that his latest song “Feels Like Home” hits close to home.</p><p>“So I wrote ‘Feels Like Home’ in my London dorm room sometime last year. It was my first time in a new place, alone and going through a breakup. This song is kinda just a culmination of all of those feelings. Missing home, reminiscing about your past with someone now that it’s gone. I think what sets this song apart is probably the message it’s trying to deliver. I think the track perfectly embodies the warmth, comfort and heartbreak of finding a place that ‘Feels Like Home,’” he said.  </p><div><iframe width="1280" height="720" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/BXPqk4hji3A" title="Gabe Watkins - Feels Like Home (Official Video)" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen=""></iframe></div><p>When asked about his favorite song, he said: “Probably ‘Flowers From Japan.’ I just love that song. I think it’s a perfect representation of me and my style; the music I’m trying to make. It’s a song that makes you feel good no matter where you are or what you’re doing.”</p><div><iframe width="1100" height="825" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/bAymaMpxn0A" title="Gabe Watkins - Flowers From Japan (Official Video)" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen=""></iframe></div><p>With created songs that resonate with almost everyone and a sound that’s too irresistible to resist, Gabe said he definitely has plans to go global.</p><p>“I think my music has the potential to go anywhere. All my songs are in English. And I&#x27;m all about embracing new experiences and sharing my music with people from different parts of the world. The beauty of music is that it transcends borders and speaks to people on a universal level. So yeah, going global is definitely in my plans. I’m releasing my debut EP titled <em>‘Grape Soda</em>’ in a couple of months. It’s been a long time coming and it’s a piece of work that I’m really proud of. I can’t wait for everyone to hear it. Other than that, just playing shows and festivals towards the end of the year - which is really exciting too.”</p>
