Gong Yoo and Seo Hyun-Jin will be working together for the first time on a new series on Netflix titled The Trunk.

Gong Yoo, who will also be part of Netflix’s Squid Game 2, will be playing the role of music producer Han Jeong-Won who will meet his “second wife” through the machinations of his ex-wife Seo-Yeon.

Seo Hyun-Jin will play Noh In-Ji, who becomes the second wife through a contract marriage.

While In-Ji is the head of the contract marriage agency, she has no inclinations about getting married herself. 

Meanwhile, Jeong-Won has his own cynical views on marriage, which forced relationship isn’t really changing his opinion.

Both came from failed relationships and are somewhat jaded when it comes to their “trial marriage” and the fact that they are forced to live together.

With such complex and confusing circumstances, their lives are further complicated when they find a mysterious trunk in a lake and it unearths secrets behind the matchmaking service. As the truth is slowly revealed, how will it affect the reluctant couple?

Gong Yoo rose to fame in 2007 with his breakout role in Coffee Prince, which also made him a certified Hallyu star. 2016 would prove to be one of his best years as he starred in the critically and commercially successful zombie film Train to Busan and the phenomenal drama series Guardian: The Great and Lonely God (also known as Goblin).

The actor was last seen in the 2021 Netflix sci-fi series The Silent Sea and the 2021 sci-fi action film Seo Bokwhere he starred with Park Bo-gum in the latter. 

Seo Hyun-jin started out as the main vocalist of the South Korean girl group M.I.L.K. in 2001. After the group disbanded two years later, she pursued a solo career before getting into acting in 2006.

She made her acting debut onstage with The Sound of Music, but it was her titular role in the series Another Miss Oh in 2016, which solidified her career as an actress. She followed this with roles in Dr. Romantic, The Beauty Inside, You Are My Spring, and Why Her.

The Trunk is based on the novel of the same title by Kim Ryeo-Ryeong with a script by Park Eun-young, who also wrote Hwarang: The Poet Warrior Youth. Kim Gyu-tae, known for his work on It’s Okay, That’s Love and Our Blues, will be directing the series.
