After a brief hiatus from acting last year, actor Tony Labrusca returns to television this year in the new afternoon soap opera Nag-Aapoy na Damdamin along with Ria Atayde, Jane Oineza, and JC de Vera.

In the series, Tony plays the role of a lawyer named Lucas who is married to Ria Atayde’s character.

“I’m not sure, I just know that this is the hardest character I’ve had to play yet. I’m so thankful nga na direk FM (Reyes) and direk Benedict (Mique) is there to guide me kasi this is really challenging talaga for me and I think this is going to be part of my growth talaga, how I see it. I guess that’s something that’s intriguing me. Everyday I’m learning something new on the set. I’m learning something about myself and about my character Lucas din so I’m grateful for this role it’s challenging me in a good way and I’m excited for you guys to meet Lucas,” he shared.

Before gearing up for his role, Tony revealed during the show’s grand presscon that he went through a challenging time in his life during the past few years.

“During the pandemic, siguro I really lost myself. I went through so much and I didn’t really know where I would place myself I guess in this industry. So when they gave me this role, I didn’t really know the gravity of how big of a role it was then. To be honest, I was very hesitant just because I also didn’t really believe in myself then. So when I did this role, grabe. Without it being my choice, I knew that I really had to light that fire under my a**. I couldn’t disappoint myself this time and I couldn’t disappoint the people around me,” he said.

Playing a married couple in the show, Tony said it was a totally new experience for him to shoot the intimate scenes with Ria early on in their taping.

“I really appreciate the effort that she made to make me feel comfortable din. There was a lot of firsts din for us when we did that scene. I don’t know if this is too much info but it was the first time for me to wear something that looked like a thong to make it seem seamless. It’s a new experience (laughs). Ewan ko, it felt like underwear being worn backwards, I guess? Usually it’s just nude boxers. And then during the scene I told Ria, ‘Hey don’t look at my butt’ and she said, ‘Don’t worry you have a nice butt!’ Whatever, I said let’s just get this scene over with (laughs). You won’t see it pero kaya siguro we just kept laughing kasi we didn’t want to accept that we were at that point. We got close and sakto rin na jive yung personality namin so that helped din,” he explained.

Tony also said he had no problem communicating with his co-star.

“Ito rin helped kasi wala kaming language barrier sa isa’t isa. Parehas kaming Englisero kasi siguro naging okay din (laughs). And yung Nag-Aapoy na Damdamin , yung day one pa lang namin, naging close na kami ni Ria (laughs).

In order to prepare for his role as an attorney, Tony said he relied on his directors for guidance. “I actually talked to direk FMR and I literally told him, ‘Hey, I literally know nothing. Please guide me through everything.’ And he said, ‘Okay, I’ll help you’ and he helped me every step of the way. And there would be times where I would panic. He just really helped me. I really asked for his guidance so he was just there for me talaga. May mga homework si direk para sa akin kasi he also wanted me to talk in a specific tone din kasi I’m playing somebody who is a bit older. So may mga homework siya sa akin to see how the actors would talk in this kind of movie and how they would talk if they were doing comedy, yung mga ganun,” he recalled.

When they filmed his courtoom scenes, Tony admitted those were the most difficult for him to shoot. “Oh my gosh I almost sh*t myself during that scene (laughs). Because they made me go home and I had to come back and I was like, I don’t want to do the scene, I’m so scared, all the veteran actors are going to be there and then I have to litigate another veteran actor. It was hard but I’m happy. I think everybody did such a good job there,” he admitted.
