Carla Abellana opens up about passion outside showbiz: ‘Nag-re-rescue na ako ng mga aspins and puspins’

<p>Actress Carla Abellana continues to be vocal about her support for the compassionate treatment of animals onscreen.</p><p>This, after she spoke up about the country’s Animal Welfare Act’s Administrative Circular No. 5, which talks about the guidelines on the humane use of animals in media and entertainment.</p><p>“So sana sa bagong guidelines na ito para sa media at entertainment industry ay mas mabawasan na at matigil na ang paggamit sa mga hayop as props na walang buhay. From my Lola to my uncles, my aunties, my cousins, lahat kami animal lovers. Very compassionate kami. So lumaki ako sa household na napakadaming pets, hindi lang also,&quot; she shared.</p><p>&quot;I took care of a lot of different animals. While growing up nagkaroon ako ng pet chicken, ducks, snake, daga, lizard, guinea pig, and of course fish. Ang dami, iba iba. Napakaimportante nun na growing up you have that compassion and you learn how to be responsible for animals,” she added. </p><div><a href="https://push.abs-cbn.com/2022/10/30/fresh-scoops/carla-abellana-urges-everyone-to-help-animals-203329" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><strong><u>READ: Carla Abellana urges everyone to help animals in need during typhoons</u></strong></a></div><p>The 37-year-old PAWS ambassador also revealed how she first joined PAWS as a volunteer even when she was still studying.</p><p>“It was in grade school, I was in grade 7 nagkaroon ng fair in my school sa montessori sa greenhills and may booth doon ang PAWS. Doon ako first nag-sign up as a volunteer. Hindi ko na maalala &#x27;yung first rescue pero it was definitely an aspin,&quot; she recalled. </p><p>&quot;Hindi ko naman actively dini-discuss or pino-post or dini-disclose yung pag-rescue ko but I have other friends who also rescue and kami yung nag-tu-tulong tulungan and matagal na. As early as high school nag-re-rescue na ako ng mga aspins and puspins. Thankfully, hanggang ngayon ay nagagawa ko pa rin yun,” she added. </p><p>Aside from supporting PAWS’s current campaigns, Carla also said she hopes the public would take interest in their other programs which aim to benefit pets and stray animals alike. </p><p>“Spay and neuter is very important. Actually hindi nga gaanong aware ang mga tao eh kung gaano ka-beneficial at gaano kaganda ang spay and neutering para sa health ng pets nila. Of course &#x27;yung adoption, constant po yan na priority,&quot; she said. </p><p>She went on: &quot;Dumadami ng dumadami ang mga na-re-rescue at punong puno na ang shelter. Not a lot of people prefer adopting, mas gusto nila bumili ng aso or pusa na may breed kaya adoption ang isa sa constant na pino-promote at ini-encourage ng mga shelters at organizations like PAWS.&quot; </p><p>&quot;And sana ma-support din ang aming most loved at favorite na fundraiser Halloween event ay yung Scaredy Cats and Dogs na every year to help raise funds for those rescues in the shelter,” she continued.</p>
