Angus Cloud, an actor known for playing drug dealer Fezco “Fez” O’Neill on the hit HBO series Euphoria, has died, according to his publicist Cait Bailey.

He was 25.

Bailey said Cloud passed away on Monday (July 31) at his family home in Oakland, California. No cause of death was given.

In a statement, Cloud’s family remembered Angus as “an artist, a friend, a brother, and a son.”

“Last week he buried his father and intensely struggled with this loss,” the family said. “The only comfort we have is knowing Angus is now reunited with his dad, who was his best friend.”

“Angus was open about his battle with mental health and we hope that his passing can be a reminder to others that they are not alone and should not fight this on their own in silence,” they added. “We hope the world remembers him for his humor, laughter, and love for everyone.”

A spokesperson for HBO told CNN: “We are incredibly saddened to learn of the passing of Angus Cloud. He was immensely talented and a beloved part of the HBO and Euphoria family. We extend our deepest condolences to his friends and family during this difficult time.”

Angus’s breakout role in Euphoria marked his first foray into acting. In an interview with i-D magazine in March, the actor said he was discovered by a casting scout on the street during a brief stint living in Brooklyn, New York.

“I definitely thought it could be some kind of scam,” he said. “But I ended up getting the agent’s phone number because she seemed real legit. They asked my buddy to come in too, and he said ‘No, f*** that, it’s bulls***.’”

“They didn't tell me anything about Euphoria,” he said. “Then they brought me back in and they showed me the role, and it made more sense. Because in my mind I was like, ‘They stopped me because I look like I could be a star?’ Then I'm like, no, it's because I look like I could be a drug dealer.”

Angus admitted that he struggled coping with his newfound fame.

“I don't like people noticing me on the street,” he confessed. “I'm really paranoid. I feel like I'm always looking over my shoulder.”

“I do always show love to people who approach me, but some people just run up and just shove their phone in my face. Dude, I'm not a clown at a carnival,” he added. “But I love when people ask for my autograph. It's only happened a couple times.”

He said that the unexpected success of Euphoria also came as a surprise to him.

“The difference between me and everyone else who’s famous it’s that they were trying to go get famous, for the most part,” he told the publication. “They were working hard, and they were like, ‘I’m going to make it to the top’.

"For me, it was just like too good of an opportunity to say no to. I had no idea it would go this far.”

In addition to his role in Euphoria, Angus also appeared in the indie films North Hollywood and The Line, and was set to posthumously star in the upcoming project Freaky Tales.
