I came home from work late one evening to see her inside a small crate. Right there and then, I truly felt I was no longer going to be alone. I fell in love with Patchy Poo,” she said.“Fast forward to 11 years, God decided that she had already fulfilled her purpose here on earth. He suddenly needed her back. Though I wasn’t even given the chance to protest, I had to respect the Lord’s painful decision to take her away from me,” Carla wrote.“I cannot even begin to express how painful it is to lose my Patches,” she added. “Just as my heart had started to heal, it shatters yet again.”Sharing her message for Patches, Carla said, “You have my heart always and forever, Patchy Poo. Please say hi to the two Rockys, Sunny and Wing for me. I imagine you all running around the rainbow bridge together, and that gives me a tiny bit of comfort.“I’m going to miss your big, bright, naughty smile, my Patchy. Abu.”Fans and friends of Carla offered their condolences, including Agot Isidro, who wrote, “Run free little one.”Another follower said, “I feel you po. My 3 babies just crossed the rainbow bridge last month. It’s very painful, and I think I will never move on from the pain of losing them. I just thought our furbabies deserve a longer lifespan.”Back in 2018, Carla asked the help of her neighbors after Patches went missing in their area. She said that her pet dog escaped their house through an open gate and had been missing for several hours.Fortunately, Patches was found by a kind soul “who took her with him as he asked around who she belonged to,” according to the actress. “Good thing we asked around too and found each other. As soon as he got home he returned Patches to me.”“Thank you, Enzo! Speaking with PUSH last July, the actress explained that her love for animals started during her childhood.“I grew up in a household full of animal lovers, from my lola to my aunties, my mom, my uncles, my cousins. Lahat po kami animal lovers. Very passionate kami. So lumaki po ako sa household na napakaraming pets,” she explained.“’Di lang po aso. We took care of a lot of different pets and animals while growing up. Nagkaroon kami ng chicken, ducks, snakes, daga, lizard, guinea pig, of course fish. Marami, iba iba. And napaka-important po nun, growing up, to have that compassion and be responsible for animals,” she added.Carla — who is a celebrity ambassador for the Philippine Animal Welfare Society or PAWS — said that she has been rescuing animals since she was in high school.“Hindi ko na maalala ‘yung first rescue, but it was definitely an aspin (asong Pinoy),” she said. “Hindi ko rin naman po actively dini-discuss or pino-post or dini-disclose ‘yung pag-rescue ko, but I have other friends who also rescue. Kami po ‘yung nagtutulung-tulungan. Matagal na po, my gosh. As early as high school nagre-rescue na po ako ng mga aspins, puspins (pusang Pinoy), and thankfully hanggang ngayon nagagawa pa rin.”Of having pets, Carla said in a 2018 feature for Calyxta, “It’s the best feeling in the world! Because they never judge you, they’re sensitive to your feelings, even if they don’t understand everything, they take away all your stress and sadness. It’s like having a child—you have to be responsible. But it’s a different feeling. It’s a different fulfillment and joy when you have pets, when you have dogs.”“It’s really like taking care of a child. Well, most people have pets just for the sake of, you know, the fun of it. But not a lot of people realize that it comes with a huge responsibility. So you know, it’s like having your own child—you bring them to the doctor, they get their vaccinations and their shots, they also get ill, you have to have them treated, you have to be particular with what they eat, with the amount of exercise that they get, you have to discipline them, and stuff like that! So it’s tough, but it’s very fulfilling,” she added.
