Celebrities are mourning the loss of veteran news anchor Mike Enriquez, who passed away on Tuesday, August 29. He was 71.

GMA Network confirmed his death in a statement on Tuesday, saying, “It is with profound sadness that GMA Network announces the passing of our beloved Kapuso, Mr. Miguel ‘Mike’ C. Enriquez, who peacefully joined our Creator on August 29, 2023.”

"His dedication to the industry will serve as an inspiration to all. We pray for the eternal repose of our beloved Kapuso.”

In the wake of the tragic news, tributes poured on for Mike from colleagues and celebrities on social media, including stars from the entertainment industry — Gary Valenciano, Ogie Alcasid, and Dingdong Dantes.

“He wasn’t only an outstanding broadcaster… but a dear friend. In the ‘80s and ‘90s he was a radio disk jockey (DJ) of a popular radio station 93.9 WKC. Baby Michael was his handle then and he always supported me to the max as he would help promote my shows. We had some real good talks on life as we bounced off our thoughts on our common health condition,” said Gary.

“Your voice, style and personality; these and so much more will be missed Mike. Can’t help but smile imagining how Jesus may’ve affectionately welcomed you home gently saying ‘Sir Mike Enriquez…PASOK.’ Mula sa isang tunay na Kapamilya sa isang tunay na Kapuso …. love you bro,” he added.

“Oh my. Bro Mike, you were an amazing human being and so helpful in countless ways,” wrote Ogie. “During the beginning of my career when you were a DJ in KC and as the manager of the station who made sure that OPM will be in the airwaves. Until you became the star of the GMA news broadcast, you never ceased to ask if you could help in anyway. You always had that relentless ‘Man For Others’ spirit that we took to heart from our days in La Salle.”

“Go rest now my brother and my profuse thanks for all you have done for us. My condolences to your loved ones. Animo. #ripmike,” he added.

“In deep sorrow, I stand united with the Kapuso community and our nation in mourning the loss of an industry stalwart. A man of unyielding integrity, unwavering loyalty, and unparalleled professionalism, he leaves behind a void that cannot be filled. His legacy of 'serbisiyong totoo' will forever remind us of his dedication to truth. Through his body of work, his impact remains indelible,” said Dingdong.

“He may have departed, but his remarkable traits will continue to inspire us all. We will miss you, Sir Mike,” he added.

Earlier, TV Patrol anchors Noli de Castro, Bernadette Sembrano, and Henry Omaga Diaz also expressed their sorrow over Mike’s sudden passing.

“Nakikiramay po ang TV Patrol at ABS-CBN sa pamilya ni Mike Enriquez,” said Noli.

“Matagal-tagal din kaming naging magkaibigan ni Mike. Lagi kaming nagkakasabay sa mga live, Quiapo… Basta may malalaking live, nagkakasabay kami, nung may prangkisa pa tayo,” he shared.

“Isa na namang malungkot na balita sa isang haligi ng pamamahayag sa ating bansa,” said Henry.
