Park Seo-Joon reveals why he lost seven kilos while shooting film ‘Concrete Utopia’

<p>Best known for his roles in well-loved K-dramas like <em>Itaewon Class,</em> <em>What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim,</em> and <em>Fight For My Way,</em> South Korean actor Park Seo Joon recently starred in the Netflix sports dramedy film <em>Dream</em> which was released this month. He plays the role of an athlete-turned football coach to a team of homeless people.</p><p>He is also starring in another series called <em>Gyeongseong Creature</em> as well as finally making his Hollywood debut in the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe film <em>The Marvels</em> which is set for release this November.</p><div><a href="https://push.abs-cbn.com/2022/12/3/-the-marvels-starring-park-seo-joon-to-premiere-in-july-2023"><strong>READ: ‘The Marvels’ featuring Park Seo-joon to premiere in July 2023<br/></strong></a></div><p>Proving that 2023 is another big year for him, the 34-year-old heartthrob is set to star in the new disaster thriller <em>Concrete Utopia</em> which is a role he choose to do after finishing up filming on <em>Dream.</em> In an interview with <em>The Korea Times,</em> Seo-joon said, &quot;Some film releases have been delayed by the pandemic. I feel so grateful to finally present my works to audiences. Seo-joon also revealed that he took inspiration from his own father in order to portray the role convincingly.</p><p>“Min-seong always puts his family first. My character is very similar to my father, who is a loving family man. I took after my father in terms of feeling responsible and protective about my family. There were times when I felt dizzy because I lost about seven kilograms for the part. I had to explore certain emotions that I have never experienced before,&quot; he explained.</p><p>The disaster drama follows the story of residents of the last remaining apartment building in Seoul after surviving a massive earthquake. Amid the chaos, Yeong-tak (Lee Byung-hun) struggles to defend the apartment against outsiders, along with Seo-Joon and his wife, who are also dedicated to protecting each other. On working with his onscreen wife Bo-Young, Seo-joon added, &quot;I have watched many of her previous works, so I felt comfortable. He likes to keep everything chill and relaxed on set. He can be laughing one minute and then suddenly give a great emotional performance,&quot; he said. </p><p>When asked about his director Um Tae-hwa, who was also the auteur behind the 2016 fantasy film <em>Vanishing Time: A Boy Who Returned,</em> Seo-joon said, &quot;Director Um didn&#x27;t give much direction to actors on set. He was very open to our ideas, which was encouraging.”</p><div><span style="-webkit-text-size-adjust:100%">Asked if he shares his concerns with his family, the actor said he usually talks about serious things to his friends. &quot;I don&#x27;t get into too much detail about work when talking to my parents because I don&#x27;t want them to worry about me,&quot; he said.</span></div>
