Social media superstar Toni Fowler faced an arrest order from the Pasay Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 108 last Friday, January 19, for her alleged violation of the Cybercrime Prevention Act. This comes after her controversial music video for her song "MPL" gained attention for its mature content.

Toni has posted bail worth ₱120,000 following the arrest warrant as stated by the Pasay RTC through ABS-CBN News.

It was back in September 2023 when the newly-established Kapisanan ng Social Media Broadcasters ng Pilipinas (KSMBP) filed a complaint against the content creator at the Prosecutor’s Office of Pasay City. 

In a GMA News interview with KSMBP’s legal counsel, Mark Tolentino, it was reported that there are certain limitations to the freedom of expression which was why they were allowed to file the complaint against Toni. 

“Kasi when you say freedom of press or freedom of expression, hindi absolute 'yan. May mga limitation ang freedom of press… the second limitation is Article 201 of the RPC. Ito 'yung nagbibigay ng mga obscene publication, indecent publication,” the legal counsel said.

“Like in this case of Ms. Toni Fowler, may nagpakita siya, kumakanta siya ng mga bastos. Aside from the — nagpakita din ng sex organs,” he added. 

The music video currently boasts a view count of 9 million as of this writing and has been age-restricted by Toni and her team.

Previously, Toni shared that her song wasn’t meant for everybody. She claimed that it was only for those who can relate to the music and admitted that she already knew before she released it that she would make heads turn.

“Ang daming nagsasabi ngayon ng kung ano-ano tungkol sa bagong nilabas ko na kanta, and ine-expect ko naman na marami ding magagalit at hindi makakintindi,” she previously mentioned. 

Meanwhile, Toni has yet to release an official statement on the charges against her.
