‘Miss Saigon’ to hold Manila auditions for the role of Tam

For children who are into theatre, this is a chance to finally step into the big leagues.GMG Productions has just released an open call for the role of Tam for the upcoming season of Miss Saigon. This role is open for children between the ages of 4-8 years old. It is particularly offered for the upcoming staging in Manila and other potential territories in Asia. <div><img src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/1704605710017.png" style="width:600px" class="fr-fic fr-dib"/>Photo credit: GMG Productions</div>Set in 1970s Vietnam, Miss Saigon follows the story of a young Vietnamese woman named Kim who falls in love with an American soldier named Chris during the Vietnam War. This production is particularly close to the hearts of Filipinos since the homegrown talent and award-winning actress Lea Salonga played the lead role of Kim in the original West End productions of Miss Saigon in 1989, then again on Broadway in 1991. She received several international accolades for this such as the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actress in a Musical, among others. Casting has yet to be announced, and the role of Tam is still up for grabs. </div><div><img src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/1704605794028.png" style="width:600px" class="fr-fic fr-dib"/>Photo credit: GMG Productions</div>The character of Tam identifies as a 3-year-old male child of Vietnamese heritage. The role may be portrayed by children of all genders. Those chosen and cast may be required to cut their hair short to fit the role. There is no need to prepare for the auditions, as the role of Tam does not speak nor sing. However, auditionees should come in suitable attire and closed-toed shoes as games may be played, which may involve being picked off the ground. They should also expect to hear sound effects such as helicopter sounds, and gunshots, and the possibility of utilizing prop guns and knives.Those interested should also note that the performance schedule will involve late nights, which may be challenging for some kids. They should also be available for rehearsals and performances, which will run from March 21 to May 5, 2024, for the Manila run and June 1 to July 4, 2024, for potential further dates in Asia. The schedule rotates, with each child being present in the theatre for several shows each week.Check out the rest of the requirements below to see if you fit the bill:Age range: 4-8 years old<ol><li>Maximum height restriction: 115 cm</li><li>Must be confident, but able to be still and silent</li><li>Must have a basic understanding of English</li><li>Must be based in Metro Manila and is responsible for transport to and from the theatre</li></ol>The employment of children in the production will be in accordance with the obligations of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE). Those interested may pre-register by filling up the form on GMG Productions’ website.
