Hit Korean series Gyeongseong Creature is set to return for a second season.

The news was announced by Netflix on Monday, January 8 via a video released by the streaming platform on social media.

Fans online were quick to express their excitement about the new season.

"Highly excited for season 2 🙏❤❤ If anyone haven’t watched this I would recommended it," one fan said.

"I hope it comes out this year 😭 I cannot wait to find out how their story will unfold from Gyeongseong to modern-day Seoul," another fan posted.

The first season of Gyeongseong Creature was released on Netflix on December 22, 2023 for part 1, while the part two premiered on the platform on January 5.

The first season takes place in 1945 when Korea was under Japanese colonial rule and "centers around two young adults who encounter strange creatures born from greed, and then must battle for survival in the city of Gyeongseong — now known as Seoul. But it turns out, there may be something even more dangerous out there than the creatures themselves" as per the press release by Netflix.

Seo-joon starred in the first season as Jang Tae-sang, the affluent figure in Gyeongseong and the master of the city's largest pawn shop. He headlined the series with Han So-hee who played the role Yoon Chae-ok, a celebrated detective renowned for her ability to trace missing individuals.

"It’s a complex genre project," Seo-joon said when describing the project according to a previous report by The Korea Herald.

"I had an expectation coming from the title itself. It is a combination of a period drama and a creature genre, but at the same time, it doesn't miss out on the intimate story of a young man and a woman," he added.
