Kapamilya talent agency Star Magic is set to level up workshop training for their actors and aspirants as they signed a partnership with Sightlines Actors’ Space.

During their contract signing on Wednesday, October 16, ABS-CBN's head of TV production and Star Magic head Laurenti Dyogi shared how their partnership with the international acting school will ensure the improvement and welfare of their talents. 

“I’m very happy to be surrounded by a team that has the credibility and will take our artists to a different level, will give our artists a new playground for their creativity, for their imagination and for them to explore acting in a very very safe space,” Direk Lauren expressed.

As per the announcement, the partnership highlights a new acting technique, the Meisner Technique of Acting, that provides actors to have “a safe space to train, connect, create, and grow. 

“It really helps you with overcoming self-consciousness and overthinking. It’s an emphasis on putting your attention on the other person. Therefore, you are able to think not just about yourself as an individual but to really connect using your partners,” founder and acting teacher Alecx Lorica told PUSH.

“It trains actors to be malleable and flexible. They were able to adjust and adapt,” she added. 

Sightlines Operations Director and teacher Marcel David also noted how he personally enjoys learning from the same technique and helps him have a different perspective as an actor which he wanted his students to also experience.

“The freedom and the flexibility and the joy that it feels to just be truthful and to just be,” he described.

The acting workshop focusing on the Meisner Technique has already started inside the talent agency, with talents such as JM de Guzman, Mutya Orquia, Harvey Bautista, Criza Taa, Krystal Mejes, and more.

As per Direk Lauren, the initial result of the first batch of stars had a great impact when the actors were able to improve their skills and personalities through the workshops.

“So far, parang I’m very happy with the feedback that we are getting from the actors that are enrolled in this school of acting,” he said.

“I also am encouraged by the fact that the artist saying na ‘I feel safe in this technique’ because of course acting involve a lot of emotional investments but some school of actings can be too draining or can also be traumatic if you're not careful with it because you delve on your wounds and your emotions,” Direk Lauren shared.

“With Meisner, I think even the kids are safe to play with it because it plays with much imagination, interdependence with your co-actor, and awareness of your surroundings,” he added.

Star Magic also revealed that the same class will also be offered for aspiring actors beginning this November. Besides acting, the agency also offers voice and dance workshops.

“ABS-CBN aims to go global. We want our artists to be able to penetrate productions, not just local productions but also international productions,” Direk Lauren stated.

“More importantly, this is a technique that will also help you as a person. It’s encouraging enough na ang artista natin hindi lang gagaling na artista but magiging mabuting tao, magiging mabuting kapwa ng co-actors niya. Ayun ang gusto ko sa partnership na ito,” he remarked.

“We are hoping for a long-term relationship (with Sightlines) and more actors will, again and again, feel safe to explore and reach higher heights in their creative and personal aspirations,” he continued.
