James Yap reveals not being able to see his son Bimby: ‘10 years na’

<p>After officially announcing his bid for a second term for councilor of San Juan City&#x27;s first district earlier this week, James Yap revealed the current status of his relationship with son Bimby in an interview the press during the filing of his certificate of candidacy.</p><p>Although he refused to give specific details about their communication, the 42-year-old reelectionist shared it’s already been a decade since he last saw his son in person. <span>“10 years na,” he revealed.</span></p><p>Bimby had flown to the US in 2022 to accompany his mom Kris Aquino who was seeking treatment abroad after being diagnosed with multiple autoimmune diseases. James and Kris wed in 2005 and welcomed son Bimby two years later. Nagsa-suffer talaga yung basketball ko. Ngayon focus ako sa politics, kausapin ko yung management. Ayaw ko naman na magsho-show up ako sa basketball, mas gusto ko rin namang kondisyon ka. He&#x27;s had the number to contact for almost a week, and the reluctance was so real, yet he took the first step towards rebuilding a relationship that I know will require some time to repair. Pero ang mahalaga ay nagsimula na. Ayokong masabi na pinipigilan ko si Bimb… my own childhood was fatherless because of Martial Law, so why’d I subject my bunso to the same fate? From the time Bimb was 8, he had the freedom to decide… Now at 16 I told him, &#x27;When someone reaches out after 7 years, and there’s a chance for peace, then everyone wins.”</p><p>It was also in 2023 when Bimby first revealed the possibility of exploring showbiz after a short trip to the Philippines after being in talks with the executives of Cornerstone Entertainment, which also handles the careers of celebrities like Piolo Pascual, Kyle Echarri, Rachelle Ann Go, Moira dela Torre, and KZ Tandingan, among others. The meeting was confirmed by Boy Abunda, who was acting as Bimby’s guardian while he was in the country.</p><p>He shared, “It was more of an exploratory meeting, kung pwede bang mag-artista si Bimb, ano ba ang gagawin? Meron po ‘yang permiso ng kanyang ina, ang ating kaibigang si Kris Aquino.</p>
