Comedian-actress Ai-Ai Delas Alas revealed that she has no intentions of revoking the green card status of her ex-husband, Gerald Sibayan. In an interview with the King of Talk Boy Abunda earlier this week, she confirmed her split with her husband last October 14 through a text message from him.

A green card, formally known as a Permanent Resident Card, is the legal document needed by a person to allow them to live and work in the United States indefinitely. This would also allow the person to apply to become a US citizen after several years.

Ai-Ai, a green card holder herself, was the one who petitioned Gerald as he is her husband. Currently, her ex-husband is only waiting for his green card but the actress revealed it has already been approved.

“Green card holder ako and then pinetition ko siya as husband so approved na yun. Naghihintay nalang siya ng green card niya,” she shared.

Despite the separation, she maintained that she wouldn’t revoke the status of her ex-husband as this is her way of helping him as they already have a prenuptial agreement.

“Siyempre pag initial [reaction], bwisit ka–– kung ano-ano ang nasasabi mo. Pero, hindi ko naman gagawin yun. Siyempre, husband ko pa rin siya and parang help ko na yun sa kanya para magkaroon ng legal status sa America,” she added.

When asked by Boy what her adoptive mother, Justa Delas Alas, would feel about this situation if she were still alive, Ai-Ai shared that she is grateful her mother wouldn’t see this happen to her again.

“Hindi naman isusumbong pero nasabi ko na noon na buti nalang si nanay Justa eh nasa  heaven na kasi pag nalaman na naman niya ito, iiyak nanaman [siya]. Sasama na naman ang loob niya. Okay na rin nasa heaven siya at least, hindi na siya iiyak,” she said.

“Sabi ko sa kanya, tulungan niya rin akong maging malakas, mag pray siya kay Lord na help ako maging fighter,” she continued.

It was just in 2022 when the ex-couple renewed their vows in Las Vegas.

“Pag babalik tanaw sa aming sinumpaan.... dahil Stateside na kami renewal of vows I promise to love you until my last breath.. Happy birthday my dear husband. GOD BLESS YOU ALWAYS,” she previously wrote.

Before separating, the two have been married since 2017 but have been together since 2014. They tied the knot at the Christ the King Parish Church in Greenmeadows in Quezon City. The couple’s relationship was hounded with controversies as Gerald is nearly 30 years younger than the comedienne.

Ai-Ai was previously married to actor-musician Miguel Vera and businessman Jed Salang.
