Maureen Wrobelitz shared her thoughts about the possibility of being friends again with her ex-boyfriend, JK Labajo.

After getting cast in her first major acting role in director Danny Aguilar’s new film Take Me to Banaue, lead actress Maureen Wroblewitz admitted she was both nervous and excited that the Philippine audience will now be able to start watching her movie debut. 

The film becomes available for streaming online on Monday, February 12. 

“I’m really nervous about it because the audience has been different when we’re doing our screenings in the US. And also, my family and friends are here so it’s kind of scary for me (laughs),” she shared during the Take Me to Banaue red carpet premiere held last February 10 at the Shangri-la Mall in Ortigas.

In this romantic comedy, Maureen plays the role of a simple woman from Banaue named Grace. She is meeting up in Baguio City with an American man named Hank, whom she met online. The two have an undeniable connection but the situation gets complicated when Hank discovers a different side to his online girlfriend that he never saw before. In the film, Maureen is paired with American actor Brandon Melo.

“When I met him for the very first time, he was very serious. He said ‘This is the plan and this is the scene and this is what we’re going to do,’ kind of thing. And I was like, ‘Okay, I’m not so sure we’re going to work well together.’ But then the more we worked together, the more we kind of like opened up and made jokes and stuff like that. We became friends,” she recalled.

Currently based in the US, Maureen admitted that she is looking forward to leaving again after attending her movie premiere and making it back in time for Valentine’s Day.

“I’m flying back to LA. I’m not going to be here. But my co-star Brandon will be traveling around the Philippines while he’s here. I have no plans, to be honest (laughs). Well, I just came back from a Japan trip and we were there for ten days so that’s kind of like a Valentine’s trip, to be honest," she said.

"I travel back and forth. So whenever there’s work here, I’ll go back here. I’m like in between countries, just traveling. I think I just have to get started there a little bit and so for me to get started I have to show that I’m there in person,” she added.

Maureen admitted that she is happy with her current relationship. It can be recalled that she and JK Labajo broke up in 2022. 

“Yes, I am happy. It’s very low-key, it’s very private. And so we’re happy and I feel like I’ve been working a lot on myself. And I discovered so much about me and I’ve grown so much. He helps me grow and kind of prioritize myself, which is great,’ she said.

The 25-year-old beauty queen and actress also admitted that she and the "Buwan" singer are not in touch at the moment even though her ex-boyfriend has two songs in her movie.

“Maybe one day [we’ll be friends], but I think we’re kind of like trying to find ourselves separately. And so he’s been doing really great with his music, and he’s going back to acting. And I moved to LA, which has been my plan for a very long time. So, we’re doing really well individually," she said.

"Of course, we have cats together, so he just checks up on my cat, and I check up on his cats,” she added.

When asked if she was aware of JK’s rumored new flame, the Fil-German beauty said: “That is great. Of course [I’m happy for him]," she remarked.

With her recent launch as a movie actress, Maureen revealed her personal goals for her career this year.

“Well, hopefully, [more acting]. It’s kind of like a little weird because I’ve been between countries. So I’m kind of like trying to settle down a little bit in LA, and I also wanted to go into modeling a little bit and I also want to do acting classes and kind of get better because this is my first movie and I kind of want to get more experience. So, that’s my plan," she said.

"Being visible here, I think that it’s great because I don’t want people to think that I’m leaving the Philippines. I’m bringing the Philippines with me in my heart. And I’m always coming back to the Philippines. It’s just for personal. And I just want to try out something new while I’m young,” she added.
