Thai star Win Metawin was all praises when asked about his experience working with a Filipino production team for the film Under Parallel Skies.

During the movie’s grand media conference in Manila on Tuesday, April 2, Win told PUSH and other media present, “It was [a] very good experience working with a Filipino team. I think our culture is very similar so I don’t have to adapt anything or change anything for myself just to blend in very easily.”

Starring alongside Filipino actress Janella Salvador, Under Parallel Skies is produced by film company 28 Squared Studios, headed by Richard Juan and Kristhoff Cagape.

Kristhoff, who is Executive Producer and Chief Operating Officer, said, “With Under Parallel Skies, our vision is really to bring stories from the Philippines to Asia and beyond.”

But what was key in making this cross-country production work?

Movie director Sigrid Andrea Bernardo said that it’s about having the right communication and mutual respect for each other’s cultures, considering that the film featured aspects of three countries—The Philippines, Thailand, and Hong Kong where it was shot.

In relation to what Direk Sigrid said, Richard talked about living in a multicultural world. “Hong Kong is a melting pot of cultures. You have people that are from all over the world, which is why we feel like this is just really us showing what it’s like in real life 'cause there are so many cross-country relationships nowadays, and that’s what we were trying to portray… We just want to portray what it’s like in real life so that’s why it works in that sense,” he said.

Meanwhile, Janella shared what she hopes viewers would take away from their movie. She said, “I like how Direk [Sigrid] describes our movie, which is no matter how different we are, because obviously our characters are from different parts of the world, no matter how different you are, we all live under the same sky. So we can all just connect with each other, and I think the real connection is that we can really just love each other freely.”

During the event, Janella and Win also made the announcement that Under Parallel Skies will hold a grand premiere night gala at SM Megamall on April 16. It hits Philippine cinemas on April 17, May 1 in Singapore, and May 9 in Thailand.
