Young Sheldon star Iain Armitage took a trip down memory lane as he bid goodbye to the series.

On his Instagram page, the actor shared a photo of himself on the first day he filmed the series and reflected on his journey in the show.

"This is 8 yr old me getting ready to film the very first scene I did as Young Sheldon. @melissapeterman recently asked what I would go back and tell my younger self. Maybe I wouldn’t tell him anything and I would just let life unfold as it does, but I think he’d be so surprised and happy to see where we are now. I sure am," he remarked.

Iain expressed his gratitude to the team behind the show.

"I don’t think this kid could have anticipated what it would feel like to film our final scene all these years later. Thank you, amazing crew, past and present, and those who have been there the whole time. I love you all so much!" he posted.

The Young Sheldon series, which is a spinoff of the Big Bang Theory series, started airing in September 2017. Now on its seventh season, the show will air its finale on May 16.

On what fans can expect from the finale episode of the show, Iain told PEOPLE: "It very much comes full-circle, and I think we are trying to do our best to satisfy both fans of our show and Big Bang, and it's been so much fun to film."

Iain's onscreen mom Zoe Perry also shared what fans can expect from the finale.

"I think what you could always expect from the show is obviously the levity, the humor, but also a lot of heart. So I think people will be really moved by the ending of this. It's a big chapter closed," the actress hinted.

On filming the finale of the show, Zoe described it as "bittersweet."

"It's not an easy thing to know that something that's been so wonderful for us is coming to an end. But I think I can speak for everyone that we're all just really grateful that we've gotten to tell this story, tell it for as long as we have, get to experience the audience reactions and how wonderful they've been. I think we're just so appreciative. Truly," she stated.
