Being a celebrity is definitely not all glitz and glam. While it does have a lot of perks, the job also comes with working long hours and keeping up with a lot of industry demands. One of the heaviest burdens perhaps is dealing with criticism and bashing from people, especially online.

With social media now a constant, it’s quite difficult not to get affected and lash back at the critics. There are some celebrities who simply ignore the negativity, while others choose their battles and speak up when needed. There are also celebrities who refuse to back down from bashers, and confidently respond with wit and sass.

Here are some celebrities who have the best clapbacks to bashers:

Nadine Lustre

Actress Nadine Lustre or the netizens’ online ‘president’, as they dubbed her, had her fair share of iconic retorts to bashers and critics who have a lot of things to say about the actress’s life. From her career to her love life and even how she dressed or looked, Nadine had to contend with the public’s opinion.

In 2017, Nadine had the best reaction to rumors regarding her and her then-boyfriend and onscreen partner James Reid reportedly living in the same house together.

“I mean, if that was true, so what? It’s not new anymore. There are younger couples – mas young pa sa akin. It’s normal na e. Come on, guys, it’s 2017,” she said in an interview with ABS-CBN News.

This iconic clapback has birthed several memes and had an updated version in 2023.

“2023 na, amaccana accla (stop it),” Nadine said in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

Nadine also had an encounter with a basher who criticized her physical appearance in 2022, saying she looks different and older.

“I find it so weird when people say I’ve changed, and I look older. What? Were you expecting me to be the same person when I was 21? I'm turning 29 next week,” Nadine expressed.

However, her tweet wasn’t enough to make a point, as a netizen quoted her and said: “Gurl ang dumi at dry kasi ng balat mo kay mukha kang matanda.”

Which prompted Nadine to give a savage response, saying: “At least di kasing dumi ng ugali mo.”

Kathryn Bernardo

A Very Good Girl star Kathryn Bernardo also had choice words to say to her bashers who have been criticizing her acting skills, her morena skin and her sakang or bowed legs.

“Ang daming time talaga ng bashers. But ngayon talaga hindi na ako na-bobother. Alam niyo, over the years natutunan kong tanggapin ‘yung legs ko. Yes it’s not straight. Parang parentheses ‘yun ‘yung sinasabi nila. But wala, parte siya ng pagkatao ko,” she said, in a previous episode of her Everyday Kath vlog.

In 2020, before the release of her vlog, #SakangSiKathryn trended online, which prompted some of her friends and her fans to come to her defense on social media.

“So siguro nagkataon sa akin because binigay sa akin ni God ‘yung legs ko. Anong gagawin ko? Eh, 'di nag-wowork out ako para ma-exercise siya. And tatanggapin ko siya kasi hello ‘di naman ako makukulong sa pagka-sakang ko no? So, I love my legs,” she added.

“C’mon you kiss my f*ck*n’ legs,” she fiercely said, showing how she embraced her imperfections through the people who cheered and continued to support her.

Chie Filomeno

Another fearless Kapamilya actress, Chie Filomeno, put body shamers and rude netizens in place with her fierce response.

In 2018, the Can’t Buy Me Love actress had the best answer to a netizen accusing her of retouching her photo from the ABS-CBN Ball.

“101% not edited friend… Body-shaming is not okay! It's never an option! I hope whatever you're going through now, sana malagpasan mo para maging masaya ka naman at hindi ka manlait,” Chie replied.

She also put bashers, who criticized her tight dress and exposed cleavage, in their place during the ABS-CBN 2019 Ball.

“Problemahin niyo problema niyo. 'Wag boobs ko. Pakealamero’t pakealmera na walang wala sa lugar. Mas nakakalungkot kasi kapwa mo pa baba yung mas marami sinasabi (facepalm emoji) curious ka? Oo sobrang nakakahinga ako, wag ka magalala. Nagpavulcanize lang, mahihimatay agad? OA niyo,” she clapped back in a tweet.

Chie also showed how she was a girl’s girl, as she defended her friend, actress Barbie Imperial, from a netizen who made a lewd and inappropriate comment about the latter.

“Naka 'tupis' man siya o hindi, hindi siya boring. Manyak mo, umalis ka dito.” Chie retorted.

Xyriel Manabat

Young stars such as Xyriel Manabat are also prone to online bashing and inappropriate comments from netizens. However, Xyriel channeled her inner Anna Manalastas, putting rude commenters in their right place.

Earlier this year, PEP reported that Xyriel clapped back at a netizen who said that she and her non-showbiz boyfriend, Nathaniel Toledo, were not a match as a couple.

“hindi rin kayo bagay ng baby daddy mo,” the Senior High star replied, which made the particular netizen slide to the actress's inbox and ask her not to include her personal life in the fiasco.

“Then think before YOU CLICK. “Girl.” Sa tingin mo hindi mo dinamay boyfriend ko sa comment mo? You chose to be exposed by commenting something na di mo pinag-isipan possible consequences,” she fiercely said on her Instagram story.

"Now iguiguiltrip mo ko when I’m not even pertaining to your baby AT ALL. I said “baby daddy” means im talking about your partner (TOO) labas dito baby mo and hindi ako mababaw. DON’T INVALIDATE MY FEELINGS, MOMMA. EVER,” she added.

Luis Manzano

I Can See Your Voice host Luis Manzano also had the best clapback to netizens who had inappropriate comments towards him.

In 2017, after winning Male TV Host of the Year at the 48th Guillermo Mendoza Memorial Scholarship Foundation Box Office Entertainment Awards, a netizen quickly commented that the Kapamilya star’s win was actually planned and rigged.

“ang "luto" yung pinagisang ulo at katawan mo... tapusin ko lang kelangan kong gawin today, tulungan ko sambayanan hanapin leeg mo,” Luis replied.

Luis responded by challenging the netizen in question to a face off. “Huwag nagmamarunong kung walang alam sa lahat ng pangyayari, panindigan mo naman ang mga sinasabi mo, DM mo ako details mo. Promise bibigyan kita ng chance sabihin lahat ‘yan harap-harapan.”

“Waiting sa DM ha, promise, ‘di ko ilalabas details mo pero ako mismo pupunta. Sent you a DM, details please… May lakad pa ako now, details please saan ka puwede puntahan,” wrote Luis, to which the basher, obviously intimidated, refused to reply.
