After taking part in the recent benefit dance concert featuring all the major '90s dance groups, Manoeuvres dancer Joshua Zamora said he is thankful for all the support and adulation his group has received through the years ever since the early '80s when it was first formed. The group is now most popularly associated with Mr. Pure Energy Gary Valenciano who was always backed up by the Manoeuvres on stage.

“Well, nakaka-humble and para sa amin, kami na yung parang naging kuya talaga ng industriya dahil way back from the '80s, kami yung natirang dancers nung mga recording dancers. And then kami yung nag-bridge from the '90s. So naitawid namin siya. So from then on, talagang naging all-male dance group na. So very proud kami at naging role model kami ng aming era and nagpatuloy siya,” he told  PUSH.

In the interview, Joshua also shared that the Manoeuvres have plans for their own special dance concert next year to mark a major milestone in their group.

“Actually, next year we are also celebrating our 40th year, yung pangalan na Manoeuvres and dahil nagkakaroon kami ng mga dance concert na ganito, napapaisip kami na why not celebrate? Kasi habang nandiyan pa kami at kumpleto pa naman, medyo kaya pa naman kahit papaano. We’re looking forward to a dance concert next year just to celebrate yung aming 40 years in the industry. Kasi marami na rin sa mga dancers namin na sumalangit na, namahinga na. And para sa amin eh, naging inspirasyon namin sila para maging matatag,” he admitted.

After retiring from the Manoeuvres more than a decade ago, Joshua revealed his journey to becoming a Zumba instructor.

“Wow itong Zumba another chapter of my life yan. When I was about to retire sa Manoeuvres nung 2010 or 11 eh nag-decide na lang ako to push sa pag-aartista. But this Zumba came dahil kay Ms. Regine Tolentino naman, yung aking mare. Dahil in-encourage niya ako na maging Zumba instructor. Sabi ko, ‘Mare, ayoko na, pagod na talaga ako sa pagsasayaw.’ Sabi niya, ‘I-invite lang kita sa isa kong event,’ so sabi ko, ‘O sige, i-ta-try ko lang ha?’ So, during the event, nag-shadow lang ako dun, meaning nag-back up lang ako sa mga Zumba instructors kasi hindi pa ako certified. So naramdaman ko na naman na ibang klase ito ah. Habang sumasayaw ako on stage, the people are imitating your dance. So ibang crowd na naman ito, ibang dynamics na naman,” he explained.

In order to teach Zumba, Joshua made sure to undergo the proper training to become an officially licensed instructor or “zin.”

"So parang nagkaroon ako ng interes. Nakilala ko naman yung mga nagbibigay ng certification sa atin which is Prince and Madelle Paltu-ob, mga dating Philippine All Stars sila. So I took it as a challenge. It’s a two-day training and then after that, hindi ko pa sineryoso. Pero later on, after four to five months, ang dami na sobra nung events, so I really took it seriously. Nag-take na ako ng iba pang course. So full time na talaga. So this is my tenth year in Zumba fitness and I’m really grateful  kung paano ako nagsimula dito,” he recalled.

As one of the most popular members of the Manoeuvres, Joshua shared some advice for those who also aspire to have longevity in their career as a dancer.

"Ang lagi kong binibigay na advice sa mga aspiring dancers is to really have that passion, magkaroon ka ng disiplina at determinasyon. Para sa akin, higit sa lahat, yung calling mo sa Panginoon. Yun yung napaka-importante dahil if you’re called to do this platform, talagang sundin mo lang yung path kasi talagang hindi ka magkakamali. Especially for us Manoeuvres, napakarami nung pinagdaanan namin na crooked path but nevertheless dinaan pa rin kami ng Diyos sa magandang path na yun and we do know na up to now, we’re still living in grace,” he added.
