Kapamilya actor Paulo Avelino got real on how he worked on his two hit series, Linlang and What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim, with Kapamilya actress Kim Chiu.

In a vlog with Luis Manzano, Paulo admitted that it took him a while to adjust from his heavy role as Victor Lualhati of Linlang to CEO Brandon of the Philippine adaptation of the Korean series.

“It wasn’t easy. It took some time for me to adjust. I haven't done a rom-com in a while or something funny, so it took a lot of time which I wished I had more (to put) a lot of effort. I’m thankful to people behind Secretary Kim ‘cause they were very supportive, to our director na sobrang supportive sa pag-guide sa akin doing romcom again and also Kim (Chiu),” he said.

He added, “May mga preparations na minsan hina-hype ko na rin yung sarili ko pagdating ng jokes. Nagbabaon na ako ng jokes, nagjo-joke na rin ako sa set kaya nagugulat sila.”

When asked how Kim was doing her roles, Paulo took note of how the actress took time to fit into her new role, then eventually get into character.

“Ganoon din eh. Parang same like me parang may mga adjustments sa start then eventually mas nakukuha na namin yung vision ng director at mga showrunners namin. Mas nabibigay na namin ng tama ‘yung mga gusto nila,” Paulo shared.

“It was a very drastic change because Linlang was really so heavy kasi it tackles adultery and may mga bata na involved. Hindi siya madali,” he added.

Speaking of how he and Kim worked together in two consecutive projects, Paulo shared that they were surprised on how they were able to develop their chemistry given their complicated characters on Linlang.

Paulo admitted that he actually avoided being on a love team as he wanted to explore more options in the industry, both as an actor and as someone working behind the scenes.

“In my case, sinubukan ko talagang iwasan for the longest time because I really wanted to grow as an actor,” he revealed. “I really wanted to study everything behind, sa likod ng camera.”

Yet, now that he is half of KimPau, he is nothing but grateful to everyone who continues to support them.

“(But now) Given a chance, here naman kay Kim, ‘yung professionalism naman ni Kim, it was something else. She works fast on the set. Sa Linlang, hindi talaga namin in-expect kasi it was really night and day especially sa aming mag-asawa,” he expressed, noting their married characters.

Paulo then stated that he would continue to give his best in all his projects as a way of showing his gratitude to their fans.

“I’m very appreciative. To be honest, for them to keep on posting, keep on editing stuff, keep on tweeting, that takes time and effort and I appreciate the time and effort,” he expressed. “Whatever I can give back, in ways I can, in my performance, in interviews like this, I tried to do my best, maximize it for them.”

Paulo is one of the actors in the industry who has proven his skills through effective portrayals of several characters, both on the small and big screen, be it with new or seasoned stars. His wide range of genres helped him discover more about his craft as an actor.

When asked if there are still dream roles or acting goals that he wanted to do, Paulo shared what type of projects he wanted to try and who are the veteran stars he wished to work with.

“May mga genres ako na hindi ko pa nagagawa na I’ve been wanting to do like a big sci-fi movie. Parang wala pang masyadong gumagawa dito sa Pilipinas,” he noted. “So, given a chance na someone’s ganoon katapang para mag-produce ng ganoong genre, sana ma-consider ako to be casted in it.”

He added, “I haven't worked with Ms. Tessie Tomas, Vilma Santos, Nora Aunor, Sharon Cuneta, marami pa po talaga. Lagi kong gusto makatrabaho sila dahil mind opening ‘yung mga natutunan mo from them not just in front of the camera but also behind.”
