In a recent interview with NBC, Céline Dion, 56, opened up about her battle with Stiff Person Syndrome (SPS) and her unwavering determination to perform again despite the autoimmune disorder.

Reflecting on her journey and the impact of her condition, Céline shared a powerful sentiment: “I'm gonna come on stage because I'm ready. And my vocal chords will not scare me because I'm going to be ready and I'm gonna hit those notes, because they will not control my life. I will come back and have a wonderful time.”

Céline highlighted her commitment to her music amid the condition's effects on her muscles and severe spasms.

“I'm going to go back onstage, even if I have to crawl. Even if I have to talk with my hands, I will,” she declared.

First disclosed in late 2022, SPS has led Céline to cancel numerous shows scheduled for 2023 and 2024 due to her health not being strong enough for touring.

Despite the syndrome's progressive nature and painful symptoms, Céline remains hopeful, stating, “I am Céline Dion because today my voice will be heard for the first time, not just because I have to, or because I need to. It's because I want to and I miss it.”

The Grammy-winning singer's determination precedes the release of her documentary, I Am: Céline Dion on June 25, on Amazon Prime, where she candidly discusses her struggles and passion for performing.

Céline describes the pain of SPS as something similar to “somebody strangling you,” with spasms that have resulted in broken ribs. Drawing strength from her family and lifelong love for music, she views it as an essential part of her identity.

With no cure available, treatment focuses on symptom management, allowing Céline to continue pursuing her passion with the support of her medical team and loved ones. Her determination to persevere in the face of adversity serves as a testament to her resilience and unwavering commitment to her artistry and fans worldwide.
