While Kapamilya star Melai Cantiveros appreciates being dubbed as the "Comedy Queen of this generation," she declined the chance to claim this title.

During the media conference of her Bisaya-language talk show, Kuan on One, on Tuesday, June 25, Melai reacted to being called the new comedy queen.

“Thank you so much sa mga nagsasabi. I love you all pero nahihiya ako sa nagsasabi,” the Magandang Buhay host expressed. “Sobra akong hiya sa sinabi na ganyan kasi siyempre di ko naman masabi na ano.”

She also said that despite how happy she is being appreciated for her humor, she said she still needs to prove that she’s worthy of a title.

“Sobra akong happy eh. Hindi ako pwedeng hindi mahappy kasi para ka namang sino. Pero para sa akin siyempre ang dami ko pang dadaanan na mga butas bago ko pa makamit yung mga ganyan,” she said.

Melai also reacted to netizens asking her to star in a remake of the popular 2003 comedy film Ang Tanging Ina.

“Ay siyempre ‘Tanging Ina Niyo Rin,'” she joked, “Sobra akong nahappy. Nagmessage yung kaibigan ko sa akin na iyong nalagi (sinasabi) raw.”

Although open to the idea if given a chance to do so, the morning show host expressed how she respects the original cast and humbly gave way to the comedians who came before her.

“Pero siyempre hindi natin pwede i-bypass si Ms. Ai Ai De las Alas kasi siya talaga ang ating ‘queen of comedy’ so hindi natin pwede i-bypass kasi siya talaga madaming napatunayan na kuan talaga,” Melai remarked.

She went on: “Ayan pa sila Ate Pokie (Pokwang), sila Ms. Eugene Domingo so kung i-kuab why not pero sana wala tayo mahurt na kuan.”

She then suggested, “Wala tayo mahurt hurt. Gawa na lang tayo sarili natin ano.”

Melai even shared what title she had in mind if she would be starring in her own comedy project.

“‘Kuan-ang Ina?' Char char lang ano. Char char lang, Kuanizens,” she said, making the press laugh.

Meanwhile, Melai is set to host her first online Bisayan talk show, Kuan on One, which will start streaming on ABS-CBN YouTube channel and iWantTFC every Tuesday at 6 p.m. starting this July 2.

“Kaming mga Bisaya, actually noong nilabas ang trailer nito, sobra bang grateful,” Melai shared when asked what her thoughts were on her new show.

“Noong may ganitong show para bang na let our voice be heard (kami),” she quipped.

Melai also expressed that the show would also help promote Bisayan culture and tradition as well as break the barrier of various dialects in the local media.

“Kami ba parang mawala yung separation… parang ma in one ba tayo… very important sa amin para tayo ay iisa,” she told the press.

As per the trailer of the new show, celebrities such as It’s Showtime host Kim Chiu, Maymay Entrata, Anji Salvacion, JM and Marielle of Tawag ng Tanghalan, as well as nation’s girl group BINI members Aiah and Colet were some of the guests of the program. The trailer has also reached more than five million views.
