A new Hunger Games novel will be released in 2025.

Book publisher Scholastic announced on Thursday, June 6, that author Suzanne Collins will be releasing the new novel in March next year.

"A NEW 'Hunger Games' novel by Suzanne Collins coming March 18, 2025! 'Sunrise on the Reaping' will revisit the world of Panem twenty-four years before the events of 'The Hunger Games,' starting on the morning of the reaping of the Fiftieth Hunger Games, also known as the Second Quarter Quell," Scholastic announced.

For her new book, Suzanne shared that she took inspiration from philosopher David Hume.

"With 'Sunrise on the Reaping,' I was inspired by David Hume’s idea of implicit submission and, in his words, ‘the easiness with which the many are governed by the few.' The story also lent itself to a deeper dive into the use of propaganda and the power of those who control the narrative. The question ‘Real or not real?’ seems more pressing to me every day," she said in a statement as reported by TIME Magazine.

Following the announcement of the novel's release date, production company Lionsgate announced that the novel will be adapted into a movie.

"Welcome to the Second Quarter Quell. The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping – in theaters November 20, 2026," the company announced.

Lionsgate previously released the movie adaptations of the past Hunger Games books starting 2012, including The Hunger Games, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1, and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2. The films were headlined by Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, and Liam Hemsworth.

The prequel of the Hunger Games novel titled The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes was also adapted into a film by Lionsgate in 2023. It starred Tom Blyth, Rachel Zegler, Peter Dinklage, Jason Schwartzman, Hunter Schafer, Josh Andrés Rivera, and Viola Davis. 

The Hunger Games film franchise is the 20th-highest-grossing movie franchise of all time. It has grossed $3.3 billion worldwide.
