Filipino P-pop pride SB19 reached another milestone as they performed their worldwide hit single "Gento" on a popular Japanese YouTube channel, THE FIRST TAKE.

Posted on the Japanese music media outlet's official YouTube channel, the five-member boy band appeared in the popular series where they sang their song in just one take.

“It was a true first take, so we were very nervous and overwhelmed, but it was fun and an amazing experience,” SB19 shared in a press release.

They went on: “Above all, we are grateful for this opportunity and for being able to represent the Philippines by performing our song here. We are honored to showcase our music and culture to the world through THE FIRST TAKE.”

THE FIRST TAKE is a Japanese YouTube channel that began in 2019 and invites top singers and artists from all over the globe to perform their song recorded only in one take, exclusively. The channel “presents pure music in overwhelming quality with no exaggerated performance.”

The channel has exceeded more than 1.4 billion in total views. It also features several international artists, such as Harry Styles, Avril Lavigne, V from BTS, Jason Chan, Jolin Tsai, and more.

SB19 is also the “first Southeast Asian group and the first Filipino to be invited in the influential music media outlet.”

The style that the group performed in the episode was a special version that is exclusive to the said channel.

Their hit single "Gento" became a popular song on the video sharing platform TikTok as it has an “addictive phrase and unique dance moves”, taking over the global scene.

The song “expresses the message that ‘it is the accumulation of small efforts that leads to success,'" as said in the press release.

Before the much-awaited episode, the phrase "HALA THE FIRST SB19 TAKE" skyrocketed at number one, two, and 35 on social media platform X’s (formerly Twitter) trend list in the Philippines, Japan, and Worldwide, respectively.

In the video, the members expressed their excitement and nervousness as they stepped into the studio.

“So this is how it looks like here,” member Josh expressed.

The group’s leader, Pablo, added, “You know I’m so excited, and I’m so nervous at the same time.”

Meanwhile, SB19 is currently one of the nominees for this year's Nickelodeon’s Kids’ Choice Awards (KCAs) under the Favorite Asian Act category.

Alongside our very own Filipino pride are the K-pop group ENHYPEN, Japanese girl group NiziU, Malaysian singer Iman Troye, and Indonesian singer Tiara Andini.

As per Nickelodeon’s website, the awarding ceremony is set to be held at the Pauley Pavilion in Los Angeles, California on July 13. Voting will also end on the same day.
