Inside Out 2 has become the highest-grossing animated film of Pixar.

Variety reported that the hit animated film has already earned $1.25 billion globally, surpassing the record that Pixar's Incredibles 2 achieved at $1.24 billion.

Inside Out 2 is also now the fourth highest-grossing animated movie of all time following Frozen II with $1.45 billion at No. 1, The Super Mario Bros. Movie at No. 2 with $1.36 billion, and Frozen at No. 3 with global box-office earnings of $1.29 billion.

The Frozen movie franchise was produced by Pixar's sister company Walt Disney Animation Studios. Meanwhile Illumination and Universal are the producers of The Super Mario Bros. Movie.

Last June, Inside Out 2 also shattered box-office records in the Philippines and became the movie with the third biggest opening day record in the country after earning ₱88.8 million on its first day of release.

Inside Out 2 follows the story of of "Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear and Disgust - who’ve long been running a successful operation by all accounts — aren’t sure how to feel when Anxiety, Envy, Ennui, and Embarrassment show up," as per Pixar.

The animated film includes voice performances by Amy Poehler, Phyllis Smith, Lewis Black, Diane Lane, and Kyle MacLachlan. Additional cast members included Tony Hale, Liza Lapira, Maya Hawke, Ayo Edebiri, Adèle Exarchopoulos, Paul Walter Hauser, and Kensington Tallman. Kelsey Mann directed the movie.

In a recent interview with Screen Rant, Amy, who voices Joy in the film, revealed that she relates to her character in this sequel.

"I felt like we've all experienced a complicated 10 years, and I loved that Joy felt a little lost. Also, she's such a parental figure in this, and the film is really about that tender and difficult moment when you have to kind of separate from your parents as a young person, your friends become important, and you start building your own self. I really related to that on both sides," she stated.

Meanwhile, Maya, who voices Anxiety, expressed her relief that her character is not portrayed as a full-on villain in the story.

"It was really important to me that she wasn't this one-dimensional villain — partially because I hope that she's in the next film, so she has to have a redemption arc. If you want to make it to the sequel, you need a redemption arc," she pointed out.
