Dingdong Avanzado said he is more than excited to celebrate his 37th year in the OPM industry with a one-night concert, The Original Prince of Pinoy Pop, on July 19.

“I really did not expect that it would happen this year. At the start of the year we were actually discussing it kasi tinanong ni Jessa (Zaragoza, his wife), ‘Ano bang gusto mong gawin for the year?’ I told her I know we were busy going on tour kaming dalawa. Pero solo artist pa rin tayo. So one of these days, sana makagawa ako ng show na solo and now it’s happening and it’s the perfect birthday gift for me this July and I’m celebrating my anniversary too,” he shared during the concert presscon earlier this month.

During the presscon, Dingdong also revealed how he got the monicker “Prince of Philippine Pop.”

“Actually ang nagbinyag sa akin ng title na yan back in the day was the late Ricky Lo who was a very good friend of mine as well. Kasi di ba yung King of Pop si Michael Jackson? Tapos na notice niya na yung mga songs ko were not just confined to ballads 'di ba? And if my memory serves me right, the album I released during that time was called Coming of Age and my carrier single was 'Awitin Mo at Isasayaw Ko.' I just put a different twist to it. So yun yung binansagan niya ako nung time na yun.

"Kasi sa totoo lang, yung Prince of Pop madami naman yang generations and may kanya kanyang generation naman yan. It’s not something that solely related to one person. But I guess it’s just an acknowledgment to the music industry, to the pop music scene, and for that, I am honored,” he explained.

With the show featuring guest performers like his wife Jessa and daughter Jayda as well as his good friend Randy Santiago, Dingdong said he is also excited to be singing on stage with a younger generation of performers and singing champions like Pablo of SB19, Idol Philippines season 2 winner Khimo Gumatay, In His Mother’s Eyes star LA Santos, Tawag ng Tanghalan Duets grand champions JM Dela Cerna and Marielle Montellano.

“I’m excited because I’m working with the new generation and I’ve seen them in a show. Kasi yung time namin, ang Pinoy pop and then now it’s nice what it’s become. I’m very excited actually for this generation and what they are accomplishing right now. I’m so glad that they’re part of the show. It’s a good reminder of how our OPM has evolved and we just want to showcase that.

Lately, me and Jessa have been working a lot together because we are on tour, a world tour, yung Sa Aking Puso. So it’s medyo more of a lot of ballads so this time around, medyo iba ang makikita na hindi namin usually ginagawa pag nag-tu-tour kami together. And so with Jayda, overall we’ll just be a very fascinating musical experience. That’s as much as I can tell you without saying ano yung eksaktong gagawin namin dun but it’s going to be fun,” he explained.

For the one-night only event, Dingdong also shared what the audience can look forward to in the two-and-a-half hour show.

“Through the years, my music and how it’s evolved and how I will mesh it with the music of today. So it’s a mixture of old and new. Kaya maganda yung halo kasi parang yung show na ito for all ages, for general patronage (laughs). Well except si kuya Randy (Santiago) kasi si kuya Randy iba dun. Basta masaya itong show na ito.

"Ako kasi pag gumagawa ako ng concert, which has been a while since I last did a solo music concert, gusto ko may storya, may journey. Parang rollercoaster din. But at the same time, may kuwento tapos yung mga kuwento na inaawit ko dun, may relevance sa akin. So that’s basically in a nutshell what’s going to happen, magnified by all the lights and the wonderful sound, the band. So it’s going to be a really, really full concert. We’re not going to hold back sa visuals at saka sa audio and I’m just excited because the talents we have here are exceptional vocalists. Madami kaming gagawin.

"Siyempre I don’t want to reveal too much but definitely I will have numbers with each and every one of them. Kaabang abang talaga siya because it’s the first time I’m working with some of them and I am very cognizant of their talent. They’re winners for a reason and that’s something that we want to highlight in the show. I’ve seen them perform because I watched Randy Santiago’s concert and I was very impressed with all of them. This time around, we will be able to utilize their talents in a different way. iba dun sa kung paano sila nag-perform sa show ni kuya Randy. Dito naman may ibang paraan naman,’ he explained.
