<div><span style="background-color:transparent">As one of the stars of director Quark Henares’s comeback film <em>Marupok A+</em>, Royce Cabrera said that he is glad that their film finally got a theatrical release this year despite having wrapped up shooting during the pandemic.</span></div><div><span style="background-color:transparent">“Walang halong eme or showbiz, talagang masasabi kong napakaganda nung pelikula,” he said. “And ‘yun nga, medyo mabigat ‘yung topic sa pelikula na ito, pero ‘yun din yung gusto naming makita ng mga tao.”</span></div><div><span style="background-color:transparent">Royce stressed that the sentiments in the film are based on real-life scenarios. </span></div><div><span style="background-color:transparent">“Kumbaga marinig sa inyo ‘yung take niyo sa film and sa mga kanya-kanyang point of view ng mga tao dito kasi totoo sila eh. Hindi naman namin inimbento lang ito. Kasi based talaga ito sa totoong buhay na nangyari,” he explained. “So sa pamamagitan nito sana maihatid din namin ‘yung message na gusto iparating ng film. Hindi lang ‘yung basta mahusgahan ng ganito, ganyan. ‘Yun sana ‘yung aim na gusto namin makuha. It was a scene shot in BGC, just after the pandemic restrictions eased up.</p><p>“Talagang ang hirap mag-shoot sa labas and ang daming tao tapos parang may eksena kami ni EJ dun na biglang may pumasok para mag-pa-picture. As an actor, talagang privilege ‘yun para sa amin na makakuha ng ganoong feedback eh,” he said. “Pero siyempre sa isang pelikula, alam naman natin na dapat entertaining din siya. As a viewer, kailangan ma-entertain din tayo and, aside sa ma-entertain tayo, kailangan makita din natin yung message nung pelikula.”</p><p>He added how each character had its own story to tell, and how it was something to watch out for.</p><p>“Dito makikita ninyo na may kanya-kanyang POV kami, may kanya-kanyang storytelling kami,” he explained. “Aside sa naging mga performance ng bawat isa, talagang napaghusayan siyempre sa gabay din ni direk. Ang laking tao. Black American. Malaking tao talaga. Pagdating sa akin, sa English ang pagkakasabi niya sa akin, sabi niya buti nga daw may mga bansang tulad natin na nagpapalabas ng ganitong klaseng mga pelikula kasi hindi rin siya medyo out,” he recalled. “So na-appreciate niya ‘yung film, hindi naman dahil na-catfish siya, pero parang simula na daw ito na napapansin na sila and nasasabi na rin yung mga story nila.”</p><p>Having done numerous roles onscreen in television and film already, Royce shares how grateful he is that his talent is being appreciated by fans from the LGBTQIA+ community.</p><p>“Siyempre unang una, bilang aktor, trabaho namin gampanan yung character na binigay sa amin. So as much as possible, talagang gusto ko ipakita sa tao na dapat mahalin niyo yung trabaho na ginagawa namin,” he said. “So sa ganyan, ‘pag nakakuha ako ng mga paghanga sa community, sobrang thankful ako.”</p><p>Royce expressed appreciation for the LGBTQIA+ community and identified himself as an ally.</p><p>“Mahal ko din kayo, mahal ko yung community, and as an ally, pare-pareho din naman tayo ng mga ipinaglalaban kung tutuusin. Kaya nga gusto ko gamitin ‘yung platform na meron kami para tumulong din sa laban na meron kayo. Sa pamamagitan ng ginagawa namin eh sana maihayag namin ng tama na kumbaga lahat tayo ay pantay-pantay,” he said. “Sobrang pasasalamat ko kasi napakaimportante din talaga ninyo sa akin, isa sa naging tulong sa buhay ko. Kaya sabi ko ang magiging ganti ko talaga ay mahalin kayo ng lubos at sumama sa laban niyo.”</p>
