Michelle Yeoh champions the Refugee Olympic Team at Paris 2024: ‘Support them with all your hearts’

Oscar-winning actress Michelle Yeoh attended the Paris Olympics to champion and represent the Refugee Olympic Team.

Michelle is a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and of the Olympic Refuge Foundation.

The Everything Everywhere All at Once star met with the Refugee Olympic Team, composed of 37 athletes, in Paris prior to the global sporting event's opening ceremony.

"Super happy to meet some of the athletes from the refugees team!! Their resilience their passion their determination and talent is inspiring 🫶 our love and congratulations!! You are here in Paris 2024 💖💖," she posted on her Instagram page.

The actress also recorded a video for the team, encouraging people around the globe to show their support to the refugee athletes.

"They have fought harder and travelled further to get to Paris. They are the Refugee Olympic Team. Please support them with all your hearts," she said in a video uploaded by the Olympics.

"And when you see them, show your support by sharing your heart with them. Together, this team is representing over 100 million displaced people. Let's cheer them on loud, and proud," she added.  

Michelle also took the time to visit the building of the Refugee Olympic team at the Olympic Village in Paris.

The actress also attended the opening ceremony of the Olympics with her husband Jean Todt on July 26 at the Seine River. 

"It might be raining but what a parade!!!" she wrote.

Michelle became a member of the IOC in October 2023.

In a press release of the Olympics last year, Michelle shared what she aspired to do during her tenure as a member of the committee.

"Over the years that I’ve been working with United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), I realize the importance and the platform of what a family like this would bring... would help me with the causes or the work that I would like to do, " she remarked.  

The actress went on: "Today when I hear them presenting the refugee teams, I feel my work is almost cut out for me right there and then. And that being part of this family will enable me to use sports which is a universal language of love on so many different levels. And if you’ve been to the refugee camps, you will understand how it will help especially with the young children."
