Robert Downey Jr. to star as villain Doctor Doom in two new ‘Avengers’ movies

<p>Robert Downey Jr. is set to return to the Marvel universe, this time as villain Doctor Doom.</p><p>As per The Hollywood Reporter, Marvel Studios revealed at the San Diego Comic-Con that Robert will be playing Doctor Doom in two Avengers movies namely <em>Avengers: Doomsday,</em> which is set to be released in May 2026 and <em>Avengers: Secret Wars,</em> which is set to be released in May 2027.</p><p>Robert took part in the announcement at the Comic-Con much to the surprise of the fans.</p><p>&quot;New mask, same task. What did I tell you? It’s too integral a part of my DNA. That role chose me. And look, I always say, never, ever bet against Kevin Feige,” he said. “It is a losing bet. He’s the house. That four-movie run was incredible, and it left us creatively spent,&quot; Joe Russo stated in an interview with Variety.</p><p>On what made them come back, Joe highlighted that the reason was <em>Avengers: Secret Wars</em> which he described as a &quot;very special story.&quot;</p><p>&quot;It’s the biggest story that Marvel comics ever told. It’s the reason that Anthony and I are standing up here,&quot; he stated.</p><p>The duo remarked that in order to lay the foundation for<em> Secret Wars</em>, a vital character like Doctor Doom is required. </p>
