Erik Santos on the loss of his parents

<p>&quot;Feeling ko hindi na ako &#x27;yung same person in a way na parang nag-iba &#x27;yung outlook ko sa buhay.  The way I see things, &#x27;yung perspective ko about life and even death, nag-iba talaga siya.&quot;</p><p>These were the words of Erik Santos as he reflected on life after the passing of both of his parents. Erik&#x27;s parents both passed away just months apart following their battle with lung cancer. Erik lost his mom in November 2022 and his dad in August 2023.</p><p>&quot;Siyempre na-witness ko &#x27;yung journey noong magulang ko eh. Up until their last breath, I was there, katabi nila. So it was a blessing, it was a big blessing for me na nandun ako sa tabi nila, pero it was also traumatic in a way kasi it keeps replaying sa head mo lalo na kapag mag-isa ka and it&#x27;s not easy,&quot; he confessed in an interview with Bianca Gonzalez in the TFC show <em>BRGY.</em></p><p>The singer pointed out that, despite other people encouraging him not to think about it too much, it&#x27;s hard not to be reminded of his parents&#x27; death.</p><p>&quot;Parang sinasabi nila huwag mo na lang isipin. It&#x27;s easier [said] than done. Denial; Stage 2. Anger; Stage 3. Bargaining; Stage 4. Depression; and Stage 5. For me &#x27;yung grieving is way of life mo na, kasama na siya sa buhay mo. Naniniwala ako na kung gaano ka naggri-grieve, ganun din &#x27;yung laki ng pagmamahal mo doon sa taong nawala sa buhay mo.&quot;</p><p>Erik described his experience on grieving as something that &quot;comes in waves.&quot; </p><p>He explained: &quot;Like minsan feeling ko okay na ako but there are moments in my life na parang nagba-back to zero ako. Parang same feeling, but much, much harder. What if ito &#x27;yung ginawa mo? What if hindi naging ganito? Ang daming ganun pa rin. After two years, magto-two years ng wala si nanay, same pa rin eh,&quot; he said.</p><div><a href="https://push.abs-cbn.com/2023/9/11/erik-santos-thankful-for-20-years-in-industry-not-everyone-is-given-the-chance-1721"><strong><u>READ: Erik Santos thankful for 20 years in industry: ‘Not everyone is given the chance’</u></strong></a></div><p>Amid the challenges, Erik remarked that he finds solace and strength when he is performing on stage.</p><p>&quot;Since dati pa naman, I really love what I do eh. &#x27;Pag nasa stage ako it&#x27;s like I&#x27;m home, so &#x27;pag nasa stage ako feeling ko parang mas nafu-fuel ako, nadadagdagan &#x27;yung strength ko bilang isang manga-awit kasi through my songs, through my performances, doon ko naibibigay o nailalabas &#x27;yung mga feelings at emosyon na minsan hindi ko nasasabi through words pero nasasabi ko at naibabahagi ko through my songs,&quot; he stated.</p>
