Son Ye-jin on becoming a mother: ‘It has brought me a lot of happiness’

South Korean actress Son Ye-jin opened up about her experience becoming a first-time mother.

In a report by SBS Star, the actress shared that being a parent has brought her so much joy.

"Marriage and childbirth are completely different worlds from the one I lived in before. Raising a child for nearly two years has made me realize the preciousness of everyday life, and it has brought me a lot of happiness," she remarked.

The Crash Landing on You star highlighted that the simple moments that she got to share with her child has been a source of great happiness for her.

"Before, work was everything to me, and I struggled to separate my personal life from it. Nowadays, even if my child just eats well, it makes me so happy. I find joy in getting through the day and ending it safely. My values have also changed a bit," she said.

Though she admits that parenting has its set of challenges, it has been a blissful experience for her.

"Parenting is tough, but it brings a different kind of happiness. I'm living very happily and doing extremely well right now," she said.

In the same interview, Ye-jin also discussed what fans can expect from her when it comes to acting.

"I don't want to set any more limits for myself moving forward. When I was inexperienced, I played roles like a divorced woman, a mother, and even a wife with two husbands. Now, even if I were to film the same movies, I think I would approach them differently. I'm curious and excited about the kinds of roles I will be playing in the future," she highlighted.

Ye-jin gave birth to her first child with husband Hyun Bin in November 2022.

In an Instagram post in December 2022, the actress shared that she gave birth to a boy via natural birth.

"I was worried about the baby [being] born a little earlier than expected, but on the other hand, it was an opportunity to try a natural birth, and I was so grateful that I was able to succeed in a natural birth," she relayed.

She expressed her gratitude to those who extended their prayers for her safe delivery.

"I met the baby safely thanks to the prayers of the people around me and the fans. Thank you so much to everyone," she stated.

Ye-jin and Bin got married in March 2022 in Seoul.

They first worked together on the film The Negotiation in 2018. After starring in the film, the two stars were paired up in the hit K-Drama Crash Landing on You.

It was on New Year's Day in 2021 when the Korean stars announced that they were in a relationship.

In February 2022, the couple announced that they were tying the knot.

"I thought long and hard about how to share this story because it’s an important one. I found someone to spend the rest of my life with.  Yes… it’s him. Boy meets girl, recognizes each other in the crowd, promises to build a future together…I couldn’t imagine! It happened so naturally…But, isn’t that destiny?" Ye-jin wrote on social media upon announcing their upcoming wedding.

Bin also took to social media through his agency VAST Entertainment to announce their union.

"I’m sure some of you can guess, right? Yes, I have made an important decision of marriage and step carefully in the second act of my life. I made a promise with her who always makes me smile. Let us walk through the days that lie ahead together," the actor said.
