Julia Montes bags her first-ever Best Actress Award for a movie

<p>“Alam niyo po, grabe po ‘yung kaba ko, kung alam niyo lang,” admitted Kapamilya actress Julia Montes when she first went onstage to receive her award for Box Office Hero at the 7th EDDYS Awards for her performance in the movie <em>Five Breakups and A Romance.</em></p><p>This year’s EDDYS or Entertainment Editors’ Choice Awards was held last July 7, 2024 at the Centennial Hall of the Marriott Hotel in Newport City.</p><p>“Quick kwento lang po: ito po yata ang unang award na natanggap ko sa movie, kaya napakamemorable po ng gabing ito sa akin,” she said.</p><p>While Julia has been nominated several times and has also won the Gawad Tanglaw Award for Best Actress for her teleseryes Ikaw Lamang and Doble Kara before, this was the first time she won an award for her performance in a movie.</p><p>Julia went up the stage a second time to receive her second award, this time as Best Actress.</p><p>“Wala po akong masabi kundi maraming maraming salamat. Kung alam niyo lang po, ako bilang nagtatrabaho sa ating industriya, manominado lang po ay napakasarap na po sa pakiramdam,” she said. “Pero ito pong binigay ninyong parangal ngayon, sobra-sobra pa pong nakaka-inspire na lalo pa pong pagbutihan.”</p><p>She also admitted to lacking the courage and confidence in herself, and credited director Irene Villamor for drawing out talent she didn’t even realize she had.</p><p>“Si Direk Irene ang nagpalabas ng kung anong nilabas ko sa movie na ito, dahil sobrang duwag ko po na tao. Sobrang dami ko pong takot at hindi naniniwala sa kakayanan ko, kaya siya po ang nagpalabas niyan,” she said. “Si Kuya Mac ulit na siyang nagkumbinsi sa akin na gawin talaga ito at kayanin ko.”</p><p>She also gave thanks to those who gave her first shot in the industry, such as Johnny Manahan and the bosses at ABS-CBN. Julia also recalled her early days on Goin’ Bulilit.</p><p>“Gusto ko rin pong pasalamatan kung kanino po ako nagsimula: kay Tita Lulu, kay Tito Jake, ngayon lang po ako makakapagpasalamat sa inyo. Kay Direk Bobot (Mortiz), sa Goin’ Bulilit, kayo po ang nagbigay sa akin ng oportunidad na magkaroon ng mainstay show na hindi na ako papalitan kapag nasa set,” she recalled.</p><p>In her acceptance speech, Julia did not fail to give honor to the late Deo Endrinal.</p><p>“At siyempre hinding-hindi ko po makakalimutan si Sir Deo sa lahat ng roles na binibigay niya po sa akin. First adult roles, first serious roles na binigay niya po, siya po ang unang naniwala sa akin,” she added.</p><p>“Sir Deo, ‘yung pangako ko po sa inyo, pasensiya na medyo nahuli, pero para po ito sa inyo,” she said, offering her award.</p><p>Soon after, Julia took to her Instagram account to express her overflowing emotions after bagging the two awards. She accompanied her post with some snapshots from the said event. She also posted one with her holding on to her two trophies.</p><p>“Isang pangyayari sa buhay ko na sobra kong naramdaman na grabe talaga ang blessing ni Lord,” she began.</p><p>“Before doing #FiveBreakupsAndARomance ang dami kong tanong sa sarili ko. &#x27;Kaya ko ba?&#x27; &#x27;Bakit ako?&#x27;” she admitted. “Dahil maraming pagkakataon na ako mismo nagtatanong sa kakayahan ko.”</p><p>Julia went on to credit her director, Irene Villamor, for pushing her beyond her perceived limitations.</p><p>“Pero nakilala ko ang aming direktor na si Direk @ayrin, tinuruan nya akong pahalagahan ang sarili at paniwalaang kaya ko ang mga bagay bagay,” she said.</p><p>She also gave credit to her leading man, Alden Richards, who was also recognized at the 7th EDDYS as a Box Office Hero.</p><p>“Unang pagkakataon ko yata sa mga nagawa kong pelikula na excited akong ipakita sa mga kaibigan ko ang pelikula dahil proud ako sa proyekto at masaya ako sa pagkabukas ko bilang actor sa pelikulang kasama ang aking mahal na kaibigang si @aldenrichards02,” she said. “I will never have the chance na makatanggap ng Best Actress is not with my Best Actor kong si Lance. PAR, salamat sa suporta at pagpapalakas ng loob ko sa pelikula natin.”</p><p>Julia went on to express her thanks to her those who believed in her talents and supported her in her journey.</p><p>She ended her post with a shower of gratitude: “Maraming, maraming salamat po sa lahat ng nakapanuod at na-appreciate ang aming pelikula. Para po sa inyo ang recognition na ito!
