On Friday, August 9, Chloe San Jose, girlfriend of two-time Olympic gold medalist Carlos Yulo, found herself in the spotlight after responding to a critical comment on her Facebook post.

The exchange highlighted the ongoing controversies surrounding Carlos' personal life, particularly his relationship with Chloe, amid the controversies involving his family.

Chloe had shared a celebratory post about Swedish pole vaulter Mondo Duplantis, who recently set a new record of 6.25 meters and secured his second Olympic gold medal.

In the post, Chloe expressed her admiration for Duplantis's achievement and the touching moment when he ran into the crowd to embrace his girlfriend, Desiree Inglander. To convey her emotions, Chloe added two “🥹🥹” emojis to the post, symbolizing her reaction to the athlete's victory and public display of affection.

However, one netizen took issue with Chloe’s post and used the opportunity to criticize her, accusing her of seeking attention and overshadowing Carlos' accomplishments.

The comment read, “It seems the tides are slowly starting to work against you. Carlos will always be loved by all Filipinos. No one can ever take that away from him. Not even you.” The netizen went on to suggest that Chloe’s behavior was “desperate for affirmation” and advised her to “practice prudence” in her social media activities. The commenter also implied that Chloe was taking away Carlos' spotlight, stating, “The people want Carlos, not you.”

Chloe did not let the comment slide. She responded directly, defending her actions and clarifying her stance.

“You haven't seen any media interview me because I DECLINE TO BE INTERVIEWED AND NOT TAKE AWAY HIS SPOTLIGHT, as you said,” she wrote. Chloe emphasized that the public only knows what she and Carlos choose to share on social media, adding, “No one even really cared about our relationship prior to Caloy's winning moment, so why care now? Oh kasi may issue and everyone wants to make sawsaw?”

She also pointed out the irony of the situation, asking why the netizen was on her page if they were only interested in Carlos.

“Go ahead to Caloy's page to feel better. All love 🥰,” she concluded.

This exchange comes just days after Carlos addressed rumors and criticisms about his relationship with his mother, Angelica Yulo.

On August 6, Carlos took to TikTok to speak out against the negative comments and clarify misunderstandings regarding financial incentives he never received.

He expressed concern over how the money was used without his consent and revealed that he was more focused on this aspect than the lost funds. Carlos also defended Chloe against his mother’s harsh remarks, explaining that Chloe, who grew up in Australia, is financially independent and should not be judged based on her appearance or upbringing.

“Lahat po ng nakikita niyong gamit o iyong pagtravel niya kung saan saan po ay galing sa pinagpaguran niya po,” he said in the video.
