Eraserheads receives Gawad Oblation from the University of the Philippines

<p>OPM icon Eraserheads has added another feather to their cap as they received the Gawad Oblation from the University of the Philippines.</p><p>The award was given to its members and UP alumni Ely Buendia, Raimund Marasigan, Buddy Zabala, and Marcus Adoro for their &quot;extraordinary service with or in the name of UP.&quot; It is one of the highest honors of the university.</p><p>The awarding ceremony was held at the at the UP Executive House in Quezon City on Tuesday, August 20.</p><p>&quot;It is no exaggeration to say that the Eraserheads are a pivotal force in the history of Original Pilipino Music,&quot; Raymund Marisigan said.</p><p>Meanwhile, Ely recalled how music became instrumental for him to pass one of his early subjects in music.  </p><p>&quot;My Spanish professor was a terror and only spoke Spanish in class, as did my classmates. At the end of the semester, I barely passed History and Math, but I was definitely going to get a &#x27;singko&#x27; in Spanish. I begged my professor for a passing grade. &#x27;Do you have anything that will make me consider passing you? They taught me that, for one, my professor can understand Tagalog, and from that point on, music can get me through anything in life.&quot;</p><p>It was in 1989 when Eraserheads was formed when the band members were still studying at UP Diliman.  </p><p>They released their debut album <em>Ultraelectromagneticpop!</em> in 1993. This was followed by <em>Circus</em> (1994), <em>Cutterpillow</em> (1995), and <em>Fruitcake </em>(1996), among others.</p><div><a href="https://push.abs-cbn.com/2024/6/21/the-eraserheads-to-continue-their-world-tour-this-july-2034"><strong>READ: The Eraserheads to continue their world tour this July</strong></a></div><p>Their hit songs include &quot;Pare Ko,&quot;Toyang,&quot; &quot;With a Smile,&quot; &quot;Ang Huling El Bimbo.&quot;</p><p>In 2022, the members of the band had a reunion and performed together for the <em>Huling El Bimbo Reunion Concert</em> in Parañaque.</p><p>They performed in several international stops after that including Hawaii, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Temecula, and Toronto in July.</p><p>The band is set to perform again in Singapore and Dubai in November.</p>
