Actress-singer Alyssa Muhlach got candid on her family’s reaction when she decided to follow their footsteps in the entertainment industry.

In her exclusive interview with PUSH, Alyssa said that she has always been open to join show business.

“When I was really young, I really always loved singing,” she shared. “When I finished graduating from college, I told my mom na (I’ll be joining).”

Alyssa is the daughter of actress Almira Muhlach. Her aunt is actress Arlene Muhlach and her uncles are Aga Muhlach and Nino Muhlach.

“I think, growing up in a showbiz family, parang at the back of your head parang ayun ‘yung una mong maiisip like, ‘What can I do when I grow up?’  kasi nga your uncle, your aunts, your parents possibly, also are in the showbiz industry so ayun ‘yung automatic mo maiisip,” she told PUSH.

Despite a lot of family members being in showbiz and being one of the prominent clans, Alyssa clarified that the family never put pressure on whoever decided to join the industry.

“Actually wala siyang automatic pressure na parang the older ones in our clans, hindi nila para sabihin na, ‘Mag-artista ka kaya?’. It always comes from us talaga mismo na parang we want to try it out,” she expressed.

Although Alyssa wanted to be part of the industry, her mom had one condition for her to accomplish before letting her chase her dream.

“Actually my mom, when I told her growing up na parang I want to enter showbiz, she told me na ang requirement muna is I have to finish school,” she said.

Almira also told her daughter that she must make her way in the industry on her own.

“She just told me na this industry kapag pumasok ako, hindi siya with the backing of the clan. Like I’m going there na ako lang,” she said.

Being a so-called “nepo baby”, Alyssa also got real about the advantages and disadvantages of having her family’s name.

The advantage there would be kapag may tanong ka, masasagot ka… One advantage that I also appreciate is, when I work with people, they must have worked with at least one relative of mine, so may automatic na connections,” she expressed.

She went on: “The disadvantage is people automatically assume na yung caliber ng acting mo ganoong level kaagad.”

The Kapamilya actress then noted how her family also let the younger generation of actors explore different genres and fields in their career.

“What I love about ‘yung family namin, iba-iba sila ng parang specializations. Iba’t iba sila nang genre,” she said. “There’s a variety in the genres that they do so at least you’ll got to explore and also find yung niche mo like what you’re going to excel in.”

Alyssa has worked with different personalities and production teams on several projects, including television series Pamilya Ko and 2 Good 2 Be True as well as horror films Clarita and Hellcome Home.

She also just released her debut single “Paalam” which features rumored couple Jake Cuenca and Chie Filomeno in the music video.

When asked how important it was for her to establish her own name, Alyssa shared that it was a goal she has for herself.

“It’s very important because I entered this industry not because I want to be just added to that list of actors in the Muhlach clan. I really joined this industry bcause I want to also show ‘yung potential ko as a person. To show what I can do and not just what my relatives can do,” she said.

“It’s also what motivates me to excel na sa tuwing umaarte, kapag kumakanta, kasi para makilala ka bilang ikaw, kailangan galingan mo,” she added.

Alyssa also shared the particular reminder that the Muhlach clan told her about the secret of longevity in show business.

“My relatives, I’m very proud of them kasi very professional sila ka-work,” she stated. “Ayun yung kabilinbilinan rin ng lahat ng mga tao in our family: to be always easy to work with.”
