Ruby Ruiz shared her experience starring in her first Hollywood project, the Prime Video mini-series Expats.

In the series, Ruby played the role of Essie and co-stared with Nicole Kidman who played the lead role named Margaret.

In an interview with Bianca Gonzalez in the TFC show BRGY, Ruby shared that when she auditioned for the role, she was unaware that it was for a big production.

"I didn't realize when I auditioned that it was a big production kasi lagi naman akong nag au-audition saan-saan, whether local or international," she recalled.

When she received a call from series director Lulu Wang that she got the role, she soon realized that it was for a big project and that she will star in the show with Nicole. "And then na-excite na rin ako... Nicole Kidman sabi niya ganun."

The actress also thought that she will only play a small part in the series, but she later realized upon reading the script that her role as Essie will play a pivotal role in the story.

"When I read the script, ano pala siya from episode 1 to episode 6. Essie was part of the show, of all the episodes. And 'yung highlight na binigay sa OFWs really moved me. Sobrang nagpasalamat ako kay Lulu," she remarked.

"Kasi sa research daw talaga nila, Filipinas are the number one being sought after ng mga expats para maging nannies or domestic helpers in Hong Kong,” she explained.

As part of her preparation for the role, Ruby spent time with the OFWs in Hong Kong.

"Ang ginawa ko nun every free time, hindi pa naman ako agad agad nag-shoot, may mga kinaibigan ako, hanggang ngayon mga kaibigan talaga and we became very close kasi dun ko nalaman 'yung mga istorya nila kasi si Essie gusto ko siya mabigyan ng buhay na hindi parang inaral na role but a real nanny. Malaki ang tulong nila sa akin and hindi ko 'yun magagawa without them," she said.

Ruby earned a lot of praises from Lulu for her performance in the series, who said that "she brought all the warmth, all of the emotion" in a previous interview with Rappler.

When asked for her reaction to Lulu's commendation to her portrayal, Ruby said: "I was overwhelmed with gratitude because hindi ko naman nakitang ganun. While you are doing it, 'pag ikaw umaarte dun, while you are part of it, hindi mo nakikitang ganun di ba? So when I was doing it already, wala naman akong ibang pwedeng ipakita sa kanila but just our authenticity. FIlipinos are known for their authenticity."
