Filipino gymnast Carlos Yulo clinched the gold medal in the floor finals of the men's artistic gymnastics at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

This is the first gold medal of the Philippines at the Paris Olympics.

The Pinoy gymnast scored a total of 15.000 points in the floor finals.

Artem Dolgopyat of Israel clinched the silver medal with a score of 14.966, while Jake Jarman of Great Britain scored 14.933 for the bronze medal.

Fans online were quick to extend their congratulatory messages for Carlos.

"So proud of you Caloy. First GOLD in the Philippines and first in SE Asia in Paris Olympics," one fan commented.

"Nakakamangha ka Caloy! God bless you," another fan wrote.

"We have a GOLD. CONGRATULATIONS CALOY. YOU TRULY DESERVE IT," one fan wrote.

Carlos is the second Filipino athlete to win a gold medal at the Olympics after Hidilyn Diaz bagged the gold medal at the Tokyo 2020 for weightlifting.

In a previous interview with ABS-CBN News, Carlos vowed that he would further push his performance in the floor exercise finals and the upcoming vault finals.

"Feeling ko mas may igaganda pa 'yung vault so magfo-focus po ako sa training and ita-try ko po na i-replicate po siya sa competition," he said in a past interview.

When asked if he feels pressured to win the gold medal, he replied: "May pressure pa rin naman po pero marami po kasing magaling na nagflo-floor at kailangan kong tapatan ang execution nila lahat so ako po nagfo-focus ako sa magiging performance ko and sa magiging mindset ko sa araw na 'yun."

Carlos is set to compete in another gymnastic event on August 4 (Paris time) in the vault finals.

Aside from his Olympic medal, Carlos is the first Filipino and the first male gymnast from Southeast Asia to win a medal at the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships, securing a bronze in floor exercise in 2018.

He also achieved the first-ever gold medal in the same event in 2019.
