Silent Sanctuary shares greatest lesson from more than 20 years in music

OPM band Silent Sanctuary got real about what they have learned after more than two decades in the industry.

During their exclusive contract signing under record label Universal Records, the band’s frontman, Sarkie Sarangay, revealed that taking good care of their health is the most important lesson that an artist should keep in mind.

“Greatest lesson tingin ko po iyong health,” he told PUSH. “Alagaan niyo yung katawan niyo, kapag umedad kayo na parang kami, sinisingil na siya so (baka) hindi mo na maenjoy yung music mo, yung first love mo.”

Sarkie also shared how, during their younger years, the band didn’t put time into taking good care of themselves due to late night gigs and hectic schedules resulting in health conditions when they grew older.

Besides their health, Sarkie also shared his advice as the band's songwriter to younger ones who would start their journey in the industry.

Sarkie went on: “Mahalin niyo kung anong instrumentong gamit niyo.

On the other hand, Anjo Inacay, the band’s cellist, also shared that the Silent Sanctuary’s creativity in making their signature music and their genuine approach to relaying their songs to their listeners are also the thing that they considered as their greatest lesson for more than two decades as a band.

“Silent Sanctuary kasi ay naging bandang may string or may orchestral arrangements. I can say naman na we’ve always been genuine with our intentions, but we always created our own path para mailabas yung creativity namin,” he expressed.

“Yung pagkagenuine sa pagiging musicians and artists ayun yung greatest lesson namin,” he added.

Silent Sanctuary has been an indie artist since 2018 before renewing ties with Universal Records. They also have a new line-up with Sarkie, Anjo, Allen Calixto and three new members, Poch Villalon, Ronnie Rompal, and Kim Mirandilla-Ng, in 2022.

Although the band has been well known and popular throughout the years, Silent Sanctuary still think that they have not yet reached the peak of their career and want to try and explore things more.

He also noted that he wanted to get out of his comfort zone by writing something new but at the same time keeping their signature music intact.
