It feels like Friday nights these days seem to require more and more celebratory pursuits. It’s a day in the week when we can all take a breather, when those who have been doing remote work for the past, more or less, 100 days can actually make their home a home: a place where one can laze, and hang out with friends over drinks, or maybe a poker game.

While the latter has been impeded by the recent crisis, the coming Father’s Day weekend is an excuse to make it happen—virtually, of course.

This Friday night, starting at 8:30 pm, ANCX, the lifestyle website of the ABS-CBN News Channel, will host Cheers to the Man, a drinks-at-home-party honoring the fathers of the world by bringing the celebration to their home, broadcast from the ANCX Facebook page.

It is also a way to extend help to the local bars and bartenders, who have been gravely affected by the pandemic.

In partnership with eight of the top bars in Metro Manila, Cheers to the Man will feature the beats of Philippine party scene stalwarts, DJ Manolet Dario and DJ Gerard Henson.

Through Facebook live stream, the DJs will play their sets, while lauded bartenders Rian Asiddao (Diageo Reserve), Lester Ligon (The Spirits Library), and Alex Renoue (The Back Room) will each do a demo of how to create the perfect drink. Singleton Manzana Soda or Dufftown Old Fashioned, anyone?

As the music plays, and the booze kicks in, the partakers of much-deserved revelry can talk, or prattle, or rave, or rant, or simply catch up, just like the old times (or three months ago). To boot, anyone can request songs from the DJs.
