Primetime glistened anew as Sharon Cuneta and Lorna Tolentino – two of the country’s biggest drama icons – treated fans to an exciting face-off in the December 29 episode of FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano.

It was a tension-filled scene as their respective characters, Aurora and Lily, the past and present love of President Oscar Hidalgo (Rowell Santiago) shared an encounter at the hospital where Aurora’s father Don Ignacio (Tommy Abuel) is confined. As the First Lady came to visit her potential business-mate Don Ignacio, she exchanged pleasantries with Aurora, clueless that the latter is Oscar’s first love. Aurora, on the other hand, managed to tame her anger and bitterness by acting polite.

There may be a brewing rivalry in the Aurora-Oscar-Lily subplot but in real life, the Megastar and Grand Slam Queen share an unswerving friendship that was born decades ago. The two showcased solid chemistry as they co-starred in the 1986 movie “Nakagapos Na Puso” where they played sisters. As years pass, the veteran stars sustained their bond, shown in these behind-the-scenes photos.

When Lorna celebrated her 60^th birthday, Sharon was among the earliest to greet her ‘Ate.’ She penned via Instagram, “Happy, happy birthday tomorrow, my dearest Ate LT! Thank you for your true and reliable friendship over these many years. I treasure you. I love you very much. May all your dreams come true and God bless you always!”

Although they kept in touch through the years, it’s a different feeling when they finally reunited for work via FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano. They got super cheesy after meeting on the set. They let the whole world know how much they respect, cherish, and look up to each other in a selfie video of them hugging.

Sharon never fails to remember Lorna’s late husband, action superstar Rudy Fernandez, who died of cancer in 2008, and also her leading man in the 1993 film “Kung Kailangan Mo Ako.” In this photo, Sharon noticed the ray of sunlight peeking over Lorna’s hair, which she referred to as a sign of a guardian angel. “Daboy izdatchu?!!!” she said.

The seasoned actresses add more life in the FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano bubble, bonding with their other co-stars over happy chats and food trips. One time, the group gave Sharon a surprise welcome by going to her villa to pretend as carollers, then, they all had dinner. And in another instance, the whole gang revelled with the Megastar.

The karaoke session was intense that night. Lorna and Sharon had a mini duet. And the genuine affection between these ‘sisters’ makes our hearts go soft time after time!
