The most important thing in Cardo (Coco Martin)’s arsenal is not his choice of gun but his unwavering faith. It is the foundation of his strength and courage, that when combined with his badass fight skills pull him through every mission, tests, and miseries. The unbeatable Agila has many times proven that prayer is his greatest weapon, shown in this Kapamilya Toplist of scenes from FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano.

Cardo is used to protecting his family at all times. But when he was distanced from them due to his missions and a spate of conflict that forced him to run away, he acknowledged that there’s a Higher Being who’s more capable of protecting them. Together with Onyok (Simon Pineda) and the kind strangers who took them in while stranded in Cebu– Cora (Aleck Bovick) and Amado (Jojit Lorenzo)’s family – Cardo prayed for the safety of Lola Flora (Susan Roces) and loved ones left in Manila.

He sought stronger Divine guidance to survive his life as a fugitive in Cebu, although he was fortunate to have met kind-hearted people who treated him and Alyana (Yassi Pressman) like real family. As his new friends prepared for his birthday celebration, Cardo went to church with Alyana to pray for the lives of the people helping him in his missions.

Incarcerated, Cardo didn’t stop praying that he may be useful to those around him, and especially to the country. He took comfort in God’s own sufferings, in knowing that even God Himself was accused and afflicted by evil. There was also a scene where Onyok, who sneaked inside prison to be with Cardo, led the inmates in prayer.

While fostering his faith, Cardo inspires other people to also connect with the Lord. At some point, he joined the rebel group Pulang Araw for an undercover mission. There were Pulang Araw members who shared the same principles with him, so he brought them to church and prayed he may usher them to the right path. He also thanked God for keeping him safe and alive despite the danger.

His reinstatement proved that God answers his prayers. The group that started out as vigilantes called Vendetta was tapped to form the elite Presidential Task Force called Task Force Agila. To remind himself of his purpose, Cardo started his first day of duty with a prayer. He invited the team to drop by the chapel. He thanked God for the second chance to reclaim his position in the police force. He also prayed for protection from temptation and the guidance to survive their new assignments.

In their new hiding place in Ilocos, back to his life as a wanted criminal, Cardo fought the storms with prayers. He’s human, thus losing hope at times. But it only takes a single prayer to recharge his perseverance. Through the years, he learned that trusting in God is the only cure to hopelessness.

Prayers have many times saved them from danger. When Lolo Delfin (Jaime Fabregas) was betrayed and abducted by his ex-colleagues, he asked for a miracle. Elsewhere, Cardo also requested God to help him keep the faith. In their hopelessness, they got their answer – reinforcement came from Armando (John Estrada)’s group, saving Lolo Delfin, Cardo, and all wounded Agilas.

Cardo’s prayers aren’t only about his own good. He never forgets to earnestly seek for the country’s prosperity as well, depicting prayer life as a nation’s foundation. “Kayo na lang po ang natitirang lakas namin ng loob. Bigyan N’yo pa po ng pag-asa ang Pilipinas. Tulungan N’yo pong mamulat ang mga tao. Sana hindi pa huli ang lahat,” he uttered. “Sana may magawa kami” – akin to what all of us should be praying about, that each of us may be an instrument of change; and that in our little ways, we may be a light in the nation’s darkness.
