Shaina Magdayao throws punches and brings on heart-rending drama in the male dominated world of Agilas in FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano. It goes to show that a prime actress like her will shine in whatever role and project she’s given.

The video montage opens with a ‘taray’ scene. Her character Major Roxanne Opeña had an intimidating entrance in the show, and Cardo (Coco Martin)’s temper didn’t skip her attention. She asked for updates about a drug-related case, which Cardo tried to connect with Lily (Lorna Tolentino). Cardo’s baseless allegations didn’t impress Roxanne.

But, seeing the truth and compelled by circumstances, Roxanne joined Cardo’s group. Her life now is spent on big missions as a member of the Agilas. She was first the only rose among the thorns, thus assigned with domestic tasks.

She’s also the mediator, the one who upbraids the Agilas everytime they get into trouble. She tamed the spoiled Clarice (Rhen Ecano), their hostage at one point. Shaina is a natural in her feisty scenes like these. She makes her character look calm but can erupt into anger.

It’s in the big dramatic moments though where she flaunts her solid acting prowess. When the Agilas gather to let out pent-up emotions, we viewers can expect Shaina to set the mood from rugged to heat-wrenching. That’s what she did when after a series of gunfights, the Agilas and then-protector Lia (Jane de Leon) discovered the latter’s dad’s infidelity.

Shaina’s top strengths are her effortless ability to cry and organic delivery of lines. Take, for instance, when she sparked strong emotions among viewers with her line, “Ang tagal na nating ipinaglalaban kung anong pinaniniwalaan natin pero pilit tayong isinusuko ng bansang ito.” Adding to the impact is her believable crying. Shaina made Roxanne’s frustration and bitterness felt too palpable, so much so netizens said they related to her dialogue.

She did it again just recently when the Agilas fled to a hiding place provided by President Oscar (Rowell Santiago) and Aurora (Sharon Cuneta), sans Cardo. Without Cardo, the Agilas are bit by bit losing all hope and drive to continue the good fight. Each said their piece. Roxanne delivered hers in a conversation with Victor (Raymart Santiago). Roxanne’s anger and weariness crushed the viewers, all because Shaina identifies with her character as well.
