Here’s what you missed at this year’s star-studded TernoCon 2024

This year’s Independence Day became extra special with Filipino heritage and style reigning supreme at the Museo Del Galeon in SM Mall of Asia when it was transformed into a spectacular celebration of culture with the highly anticipated TernoCon 2024 last June 10. Once again, the prestigious event brought together talented designers, stunning creations, and a community united in celebrating this beautiful Filipino legacy through fashion.

Bench/ lifestyle + clothing founder Ben Chan presents the TernoCon 2023 Catalog to the First Lady of the Philippines, Liza Araneta-Marcos.

Through the collaboration of Bench/ lifestyle + clothing and the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP), the fashion show titled "KKK: Kasarinlan, Kultura, Kasuotan," commemorated the 126th year of Philippine Independence by showcasing the rich history of our culture through the iconic terno through three trailblazing fashion designers—Jojie Lloren, Cary Santiago, and Jaggy Glarino—who wowed the audience with collections that paid homage to Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, with each collection was a personal tribute, weaving stories of our heritage into every piece.

Actress and TV host Maine Mendoza along with model and photographer JoAnn Bitangcol modeled minimalist ternos as the muses of Jojie Lloren while Miss Universe Philippines 2023 Michelle Dee modeled a sculptural Cary Santiago creation. Model Marina Benipayo walked the runway in an avante garde creation by Jaggy Glarino.

Lloren’s collection, which he titled "A Lullaby for my Mother" set the tone for the night, starting it off with 12 elegant ternos which paid homage to his beloved mom and the Motherland. Santiago followed with his own 12-piece collection "Ikonograpiya" which wowed everyone with the creative inclusion of iconic symbols like the Sampaguita, the Philippine national flower, jeepney, and sorbetes (Pinoy ice cream), all set in the vivid colors of the national flag. And last but not the least, Glarino’s creations "Lemlunay,” which was composed of nine ternos and three barongs, still managed to impress as he took inspiration from the rich cultural heritage of Mindanao.

Apart from creating an unforgettable night with an atmosphere of elegance and national pride, TernoCon 2024 was also a star-studded event. Celebrities seen at the event include model couple Richard and Lucy Torres-Gomez, Miss Universe Philippines 2024 Chelsea Manalo, actress, Vanna Garcia, TV host Daphne Osena-Paez, models Tweetie De Leon, Apples Aberin, Kely Misa-Fernandez, and, singer JK Labajo.

For this year’s TernoCon 2024, it felt like the audience itself was a stunning display of Filipino beauty, with guests adorning their finest ternos, barongs, and their own interpretation of modern Filipiniana wear. From show-stopping outfits to fashion enthusiasts sporting avant-garde creations, celebrities, socialites, and the virtual who’s who of the fashion industry all came out to embody the true spirit of Filipino fashion and were one in wanting to celebrate their heritage through style.
