Juday, Marvin share personal thoughts on relationship, parenting matters

Those who were already alive and abreast of the local entertainment scene during the ‘90s definitely know that Judy Ann Santos and Marvin Agustin are two of the most popular stars of their generation. They starred in two iconic series-turned-movies, namely, “Gimik” (1996-1999) and “Esperanza” (1997-1999), which apparently brought them closer to each other.Even though they haven’t worked together onscreen since then, the two have maintained their friendship and closeness, as seen in the recent videos uploaded on their respective YouTube channels, wherein they shared a few sumptuous recipes with the viewers and gave us a glimpse of their awesome friendship.Just like in the latest video published on Marvin’s channel entitled “BEHIND THE CUI-SCENE with JUDY ANN SANTOS-AGONCILLO,” in which they dished on some of the questions sent in by fans that ranged from the simple ones related to cooking, since both of them are also certified chefs, to the intriguing ones with regards to parenting and relationships.<div><iframe allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" allowfullscreen="" frameBorder="0" height="703" referrerPolicy="strict-origin-when-cross-origin" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/7BkpTKMpgVA" title="BEHIND THE CUI-SCENE with JUDY ANN SANTOS- AGONCILLO" width="1250"></iframe></div>The two of them may belong to Gen X, yet they proved that they’re still knowledgeable when it comes to millennial and Gen Z love slangs, such as “orbiting,” or “when someone has cut off communication with a person or they have made it clear that they are not interested in pursuing a relationship yet they continue to interact with that person on social media.”For the Queen of Pinoy Soap Operas, it’s definitely not going to be an issue since it is not her who detached herself from that person. On the other hand, Marvin felt sorry for the “orbiter” since the burden of this situation is on him/her and suggested that the two parties talk about it so that they can both completely move on. Since it’s something that neither of them wants to be involved in, Marvin simply advised for us to live in reality and not in the virtual world.Both of them may look young for their age, but Marvin and Juday are already parents to teenage kids. Thus, with regard to the idea of them moving out of their house as they pursue college, Juday said that she and her husband, Ryan Agoncillo, have been preparing themselves emotionally and mentally as early as now since their panganay Yohan is about to enter university.“Kasi darating naman talaga sa position ng bata na, they would want to experience that. Of course, it’s painful. Of course, it’s going to hurt. Pero hindi mo sila pwedeng itali kasi they have to grow. They have to know their path. They have to know their future, and kung lagi kang naka-gano’n sa mga anak mo, how will they know how to be responsible?” Juday conveyed.She continued, “Your job as a parent or as a mother is to guide them through what life is and how to be strong in life. Other than that, hindi mo sila pwedeng ikulong.”When it comes to the right age to date and get married, both of them believe that it’s really impossible to say a certain number since each one of us lives different life. Thus, Juday simply emphasized that it depends on one’s readiness to be with their person, to compromise for, and plan their life with another human being, to which Marvin agreed. Besides, she also reminded everyone that having a partner doesn’t necessarily equate to getting married because marriage is something that must be thoroughly discussed by a couple.While going on dates in our teenage years used to be frowned upon by elders, Marvin believes that it’s already okay for parents like them to allow their adolescent kids to do it, provided they’ve raised and guided them well.“Hindi magfa-factor kung anong edad, kundi kung kailan sila ready na i-explore ‘yong gano’ng klase ng relationship. Hindi lang dahil sa nalulungkot sila o wala silang nakukuhang atensyon sa paligid nila. Kasi, ‘di ba, gano’n ‘yong nangyayari kaya napapaaga ang dating kasi they’re looking for attention. And I hope na it’s not the case na magda-date sila kasi walang attention. Magda-date sila kasi gusto na nilang i-explore,” Marvin expressed.With regard to their thoughts on giving their kids their first drink, Judy Ann said that she would rather let their kids drink with her and Ryan first than let them drink with their friends without knowing their boundaries. She stressed the need for them, especially Yohan, to be aware of their limitations.Marvin, on the other hand, shared that he told his twins Santiago and Sebastian that drinking could be fun as long as it’s introduced to them correctly. Thus, he willingly allowed them to take their first shot under his guidance when they asked him if they wanted to try liquor.We may be living in modern times, but Juday still firmly believes in pamamanhikan, or the Filipino tradition wherein a man and his family would visit the house of the woman he wishes to marry to ask for their blessing and discuss initial plans for their upcoming marriage. She recalled how Ryan separately did it to her mom, her dad, and her late talent manager, Alfie Lorenzo, which she absolutely appreciated. Marvin agreed with her, so he would definitely advise his kids to do it someday if they’re going to get hitched.The last topic they tackled was about dating someone who isn’t approved by parents, to which Judy Ann can definitely relate since it’s something that she went through in her younger years and that she experiences with her daughter Yohan. While she’s the type of mom who is very vocal in expressing her sentiments towards the guys who profess their interest in courting Yohan, the Kapamilya actress would still give them the benefit of the doubt and get to know them better before providing their final judgment.
