In an episode of "Luis Listens," Kaila Estrada took the spotlight, playfully embracing her “nepo baby” (that’s short for “nepotism baby,” or those who ride on their family’s coattails to succeed) status with a mix of humor and candidness.

As the conversation unfolded, Luis asked with curiosity, “Hindi ka ba napapagod na inaano tayo na ‘the nepo babies’?” Kaila’s response was refreshingly straightforward: “Actually, I just find it so funny. Talagang natatawa na lang ako kasi true naman eh. Totoo naman talaga… And you know whatever negative connotation is out there with being a ‘nepo baby,’ deadma na lang.”

It was clear that Kaila’s approach to the “nepo baby” tag was more about embracing her reality with a smile rather than letting it define her. “I feel like it only hurts my feelings when they use it to discredit my hard work.”

Kaila opened up about her life in the limelight, shaped by her parents (Janice De Belen and John Estrada). She revealed that her parents' advice goes beyond the usual guidance. It blends professionalism and humility- be on time, prepare thoroughly, read your script, always stay grounded, and choose your friends wisely.

Luis then probed into whether Kaila’s celebrity parents offer feedback on her acting performances. According to Kaila, her mom Janice prefers to stay reserved, commenting only when asked.

The conversation turned to Kaila’s role in “Linlang,” where she portrayed a character far beyond her years amid a powerhouse cast. She candidly admitted her nerves: “So I was like, Oh my gosh. I don’t know if I can do this. ‘Yung talagang… I was so riddled with self-doubt and anxiety.”

Being one of the youngest cast members and tackling such a mature role, Kaila’s anxiety was palpable. It reflected the pressure of living up to both her expectations and the high standards of her role as Sylvia Lualhati.

Kaila shared a deeply personal experience that revealed her vulnerability and her mother's steadfast support. She was overwhelmed by anxiety and self-doubt, feeling as though she had faltered in her performance in one of her scenes in “Linlang.” The pressure of the moment drove her to tears. She called her mother and apologized: “I was like, Mom, ‘I’m so sorry.’ As in ganoon, ‘I think I failed you.’”

Her mother’s calm and composed response reflected her parenting style of fortifying resilience rather than coddling, which fostered Kaila’s trust and independence while ensuring she felt her mother’s unwavering support.

Growing up, Kaila had no plans to enter the spotlight, but it wasn’t until she completed college and reached her early twenties that she began to seriously consider a career in showbiz, initially dabbling in modeling before eventually deciding to pursue acting .“I don’t want to grow up looking back, thinking, oh, I should have at least tried. Sayang. Ayoko rin magkaroon ng mga unanswered questions,” she said.

If acting didn’t pan out, she was prepared for other interests—whether studying abroad, pursuing entrepreneurship, or even becoming a doctor. Her initial dream was to become a pastry chef, underscoring her diverse interests and ambitions.

Kaila kept her interest in acting a secret from her parents to forge her path, relying only on her manager to support her casting calls at Star Magic. Though new to the industry, Kaila's praised performances validate her hard work, inspire her to continue pursuing her passion, and affirm that her career choices are right.

She talked about how her ultimate dream role would be in an action film or a psycho-thriller, highlighting her aspirations to work in either the action or horror genre.

One standout moment in her career was her role in the teleserye “Viral Scandal,” which starred Charlie Dizon, Joshua Garcia, Dimples Romana, and Maxine Magalona. Reflecting on her performance, Kaila recounted a particularly intense scene with a mix of disbelief and pride. She couldn’t believe she pulled that off.

Kim Chiu, described by Kaila as “bubbly,” left a lasting impression with her happiness and boundless energy. Belle Mariano, on the other hand, struck Kaila as “adorable” and “charming.” Kaila even likened Bell to an older sister figure, appreciating her sweetness and the sisterly bond they share.

When it comes to JM De Guzman, Kaila cannot help but praise his generosity and acting prowess. Donny Pangilinan’s generosity also stood out. Even though their time together on the set of “Can’t Buy Me Love” was limited, Kaila noted that Donny consistently made an effort to show appreciation to the cast and crew, making a positive impact on everyone.

Maris Racal was described as “very funny,” a source of laughter and lightheartedness on set. Agot Isidro earned the title of “cool” from Kaila, who affectionately referred to her as “Mom” on set, reflecting a deep respect and admiration. Ruffa Gutierrez was recognized for her humor and undeniable presence, described as someone who brings class and vitality to any gathering. Enzo Pineda was noted as a “gentleman,” and Maricel Soriano, who played a pivotal role in Kaila’s life during their “Linlang,” shoot was remembered as “super sweet.”

Through these descriptions, Kaila painted a vivid picture of her experiences and relationships within the industry, revealing the personal and professional connections that shape her career.
