Mr. Nice Guy is in love with Rich Girl and they develop good friendship but something gets in the way – his insecurities due to their different social classes.

Dear MOR: Celebrity Specials “Langit Lupa,” voiced by former Pinoy Big Brother Kumunity Season 10 housemates Nathan Juane and Isabel Laohoo, is cute and relatable enough for its campus setting. But more than the ‘kilig,’ you also shouldn’t skip the message it inadvertently conveys.

Letter-sender Jomer (Nathan) is an academic scholar and the president of a campus org that organizes outreach programs. A pretty volunteer named Desiree (Isabel) stole his attention. There’s a catch. She’s the daughter of a couple who funds their outreach programs, and she didn’t like how he seems to be bossing her around. Their first meeting led to a cute bickering.

Jomer thought it’d be impossible to be friends with Desiree because she’s rich and he’s poor. But even if they have different social classes, they share the same heart for helping other people. Eventually, they grew closer.

Jomer came to Desiree’s birthday party where he met her parents. He was surprised at the hospitality and simplicity shown by her family. And as listeners, we couldn’t help but smile at the instant closeness and banter. Gaining the parents’ trust, Jomer was asked to report should Desiree starts hanging out friends who are bad influence.

Just as when Jomer musters the courage to confess his feelings, Desiree started to entertain Emman, the campus dancer and heartthrob. But Emman is the bad guy Desiree’s parents warned her about. Jomer felt he had to do something to ‘save’ Desiree from Emman’s bad influence. He told Desiree’s parents about her suitor, but it only convinced her to shut him off.

Cue in the confrontation scene. Honestly, Jomer and Desiree fighting still sounded adorable. “’Di hamak na mas pogi naman sa’yo si Emman,” she said. “Mas mahal naman kita!” he accidentally confessed.

Jomer thought Desiree will notice him if he becomes like Emman. Somebody had to make him realize that he is his own competition. His insecurity, and not really Emman, is the major snag in his potential romance with Desiree. He lost his self-esteem in his attempt to impress her.

The COVID-19 pandemic happened; on-campus classes were suspended. Jomer focused on their family’s survival that he almost forgot about his feelings for Desiree. They haven’t been in touched as well.

One day, he decided to go to the park. And much to his surprise, he bumped into Desiree. The ‘kilig’ would reach maximum level from here, as Desiree pressures Jomer to be upfront about his feelings. She knew all along, anyway. She just wanted him to stop being so ‘torpe’ and start to make the right move.

So, Jomer snapped out of it, making a promise to himself to pursue the girl he likes.

The words “Langit Lupa” might sound like a classic, melodramatic teleserye trope but Jomer and Desiree’s story is light, romantic, and relatable with just the right amount of conflict. At the end, it teaches listeners that nobody is really out of your league, as long as you have pure intentions. It will inspire ‘torpe’ and insecure guys out there stop the negative self-talk. Instead, present yourself with honesty and create the right timing in your own story.

Although newbies, Nathan and Isabel managed to concoct the right blend of ‘kilig’ and sincerity in their portrayals. Most listeners might have first witnessed their chemistry inside the PBB house wherein they’re being watched 24/7. But, here, even without the visuals, their chemistry felt real, keeping us hooked in the characters’ real-life story.

We look forward to more of Nathan and Isabel, as well as the next love stories and Kapamilya artists to be featured in Dear MOR: Celebrity Specials, streamed every Monday at 11 pm, on MOR Entertainment’s YouTube Channel.
