THROWBACK: How KathNiel’s Modern Filipiniana fashion at the ABS-CBN Ball 2019 left us awestruck

<p>She’s been a well-loved actress ever since her child star days. He’s a scion of one of the well-known showbiz clans in the country. They may have come from different backgrounds and started out in the industry in different times, but the universe has its wondrous way of intertwining the paths of Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla.</p><p>In an unexpected twist of fate, they got to work for the first time in 2011 via the weekly youth-oriented series <a href="https://ent.abs-cbn.com/articles-photos/63030718-throwback-growing-up-2011-13858"><strong><u>Growing Up</u></strong></a>, in which their chemistry was initially noticed. Kathryn captivated us in a form-fitting fully-embellished fuchsia <em>terno</em> created by Filipino Dubai-based designer Michael Cinco, which featured patterns inspired by the <em>T’nalak</em> weaving tradition of the <em>T’boli</em> tribe in South Cotabato.</p><div><img alt="Kathniel" src="https://aa1a-dctp-s3-entertainment.s3.ap-southeast-1.amazonaws.com/updates/entertainment/2023/09/28/kathniels-at-the-abs-cbn-ball-2019-3.jpg"/></div><p>In an Instagram post, the Asia’s Superstar shared the story behind her gown. “I originally requested to incorporate <em>T’nalak</em> prints to make the look very Filipino, and he did so without compromising the signature Michael Cinco aesthetic by mimicking the patterns using Swarovski crystals.”</p><p>Adding oomph to her look was the sweetheart mesh neckline of her stunning frock, her sultry makeup, and her medium-length mane with full bangs.</p><p>Kathryn might have tried various looks, cuts, silhouettes, and styles, but there’s one thing that never changed in the past years – her handsome arm candy Daniel!</p><p>To complement his beloved “<em>bal,</em>” the Supreme Idol strutted on the red carpet in a patterned blue suit made of indigenous fabric that he wore over an intricately-designed <em>barong</em> with a <em>jusi</em> scarf accent. DJ was seen surprising Kath with a big bouquet of roses that matched her bedazzled <em>terno</em>, much to the delight of everyone who had witnessed it.
