THROWBACK: KathNiel’s awe-inspiring, much-awaited stints on the Star Magic Ball

Being two of the biggest and brightest stars of ABS-CBN, not to mention the most formidable tandem at present, there’s definitely no wonder that Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla are among the highly anticipated figures in almost every Kapamilya event, such as the prestigious Star Magic Ball.And ever since becoming an official loveteam in 2012, the on-and-off-screen sweethearts had always been present in the annual gathering until its final staging in 2017. As we look forward on seeing them again together in this year’s ABS-CBN Ball, let’s reminisce first about their unforgettable red-carpet moments.It was in 2012 when they began attending together, which was also the same year when the KathNiel loveteam was born through their first-ever teleserye together “<a href="https://ent.abs-cbn.com/articles-photos/53091317-throwback-princess-and-i-2012-15796" target="_blank">Princess and I</a>.” Aside from the fact that it was their first time to walk the red carpet together, what made that night extra special and memorable was when they were bestowed the Breakout Style Award. The bespectacled Daniel showed up in a spruce tuxedo, while Kath sashayed in a Rhett Eala bedazzled white sweetheart gown.The following year, they enthralled us with their prom-inspired look as the Queen of Hearts paraded in an embellished blush pink frock made by Francis Libiran, while her King was cladded in a black and blue plaid suit by Edwin Tan. They seemed to embody their well-loved characters in their movie “Must Be…Love” and series “<a href="https://ent.abs-cbn.com/gottobelieve/articles-photos/throwback-2013-pictorial-photos-of-got-to-believe-cast-14385" target="_blank">Got To Believe</a>” that were both shown in 2013.Reminiscent of the ambiance of their 2014 blockbuster hit flick “She’s Dating the Gangster,” the couple gave us a retro vibe through the elegant ensembles they wore to the star-studded affair. In light of the Old Hollywood Glam theme, the actress stunned in shimmering, feathery Albert Andrada gown, which was complemented by the maroon Joey Samson suit worn by the actor, who even brandished a black cane prop.In 2015, it can be recalled that they headlined the remake of the classic Kapamilya soap opera <a href="https://ent.abs-cbn.com/pangakosayo" target="_blank">Pangako Sa ‘Yo</a>. It was indeed a success due to the favorable reception they got from the viewers, and so was their matching white ensembles to the Ball that year. Kath was cladded in a Michael Cinco form-fitting laser-cut sheath serpentine dress that bared her sexy back, while DJ was in a Joey Samson creation adorned with a black corsage.As mature and daring as their characters Mia and Eli in the acclaimed romantic-drama film “Barcelona: A Love Untold”, the tandem exhibited the same aura on their trip to the Star Magic Ball in 2016. They went twinning again, with the Queen mesmerizing in a shimmering black strapless gown with high slit by Michael Cinco, while the King literally loosening up from the formality of the event by putting on an all-black suit pieced together by Francis Libiran and Joey Samson.The year 2017 had been momentous for the majestic pair since it was their first time to star in an action-fantasy teleserye, which was <a href="https://ent.abs-cbn.com/lalunasangre" target="_blank">La Luna Sangre</a>. And it seemed that they had personified their mystical characters Malia and Tristan on that year’s glitzy affair, as shown in the attires they wore. Kath looked utterly ethereal in her heavily embellished Patricia Santos number and topped it off with a romantic ‘do. As ‘rebellious’ as he’s always been, DJ stood out in the sea of black and white suits by wearing a plum velvet blazer and tinted wayfarers.Now that we’re few days away from the much-awaited evening happening on September 30, we can’t help but be excited on how KathNiel will stun and make us kilig again.Apart from being a star-studded night of glitz and glamour, the upcoming ABS-CBN Ball 2023 will also put the spotlight on the stories of thanksgiving, togetherness, and hope shared by Kapamilya artists, employees, partners, and collaborators, who all share the vision of delivering stories that promote human good to our dear audiences.
