Kapamilya React: Aya Fernandez has so many interesting facts to share about her past teleseryes

Like a chameleon, Aya Fernandez transforms the moment she breathes life to her character. She’s always up for challenges, and eager to learn more about her craft one project at a time. In this episode of Kapamilya React, she mused about her experiences as an actress, so far, as she re-watched her best scenes in past teleseryes.Aya was able to share the screen with some of the industry’s top-caliber artists and directors in her first-ever teleserye “<a href="https://ent.abs-cbn.com/angsaiyoayakin">Ang Sa Iyo Ay Akin</a>” in 2020. It was one for the books for many reasons. Apart from it being her acting initiation, it was the first Kapamilya series to air digitally post-ABS-CBN shutdown.“Kada magsa-start ang taping, ‘yung purpose namin hindi lang para sa sarili namin kundi para doon sa mawawalan ng trabaho kasi nga natanggalan ng prankisa. Nasa isip namin, ‘Kailangan galingan natin para mabuhay ‘yung kompanya natin,’” shared Aya. The challenging part, on the other hand, was injecting maturity into her character, make Agatha look like a 30-year-old even if she was just 22 then.In this episode, she reviewed her confrontation scene with Iza Calzado, saying the director asked for a second take since the character must remain fierce but Aya failed not to cry on the first take.The next one is her dramatic exchange with Coco Martin’s Cardo Dalisay in the iconic “<a href="https://ent.abs-cbn.com/batangquiapo">FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano</a>.” To emulate her character, Doctor Audrey Mante, she interviewed her doctor friends and learned that physicians cannot refuse patients during emergency situations. It was shown in her first appearance where she tended to Cardo’s friends, who were then considered rebels in the story.She also remembers Coco’s spontaneity, meaning they didn’t follow scripts in conversational scenes. Aya learned so much through this technique, which is why she considers Coco a big part of her journey as an actress.Asked how she prepares for heavy drama scenes, she said it begins with soothing the jitters. Technically, she uses the Meisner method in which a portrayal is built from the characters’ emotions, and not from the actor’s personal experience. She believes, though, that actors can’t stick to just one technique.“Sabi nga nila, hindi talaga maiiwasan na mapapahiram mo ‘yung sarili mong emosyon. Kasi ‘yung emosyon naman natin, walang utak ‘yan, eh. Kapag na-touch ‘yung emotion, let’s say betrayal, eh pamilyar na sa utak or puso mo kung ano ‘yung betrayal, napapahiram mo nang slight kung ano ‘yung nadama mo in the past,” explained Aya.The next scene, which was from <a href="http://ent.abs-cbn.com/viralscandal">Viral Scandal</a>, brought her to tears. It was Ella (Aya) and Rica (Charlie Dizon)’s phone conversation about finding the courage to get back up and love again despite their traumatic past, interspersed with the scene of Ella’s boyfriend, Archie (Vance Larena), beaten up to death. She divulged losing 12 pounds and suffering from skin breakouts while filming the series. Her doctor and acting coach confirmed that the symptoms were due to her intense portrayal, “Kasi kahit naman acting lang ‘yan pero totoong galit at lungkot ‘yung nararamdaman mo, nagma-manifest.” She also underwent psychological therapy as part of her assignment to completely understand the emotions of a sexual abuse victim.Aya is always blessed with good roles and projects. On her part, she does her best to deliver and at the same time learn. Her recent work was playing Becca in <a href="https://ent.abs-cbn.com/afamilyaffair">A Family Affair</a>. The highlight of this project was immersing herself into the culture of Masbate, their filming location, where they lived the life of cowboys and cowgirls.
