Those who are able to follow the showbiz career of FPJ’s Batang Quiapo star and director Coco Martin are surely aware that he started as an indie actor. His remarkable performances in independent films earned recognitions and praises, paving the way for him to be noticed and to be able to shift into mainstream media.

And from supporting stints in teleseryes, he has gone to become one of the biggest and brightest stars in the country and is eventually hailed as the Kapamilya Primetime King. Thus, his appearances in ABS-CBN Christmas SIDs through the years, including 2023’s “Pasko ang Pinakamagandang Kuwento which was just released last December 1, are among the most anticipated by Kapamilya fans. Let’s revisit those in this episode of Kapamilya Snaps!

It was in 2008 when he initially broke into the Kapamilya teleserye scene via the afternoon soap opera Ligaw na Bulaklak. However, it was only the following year when he had his debut appearance in an ABS-CBN Christmas Station ID, which was the truly iconic and top favorite “Bro, Ikaw Ang Star ng Pasko.” In 2010, he was one of the celebrities who boasted Pinoy pride in “Ngayong Pasko Magniningning ang Pilipino.”

Following the success of their highly-successful first-ever onscreen team-up in the 2011 soap opera Walang Hanggan, Coco and loveteam partner Julia Montes shared the screen as they were seen in a family gathering set in Los Angeles, California.

He was seemingly absent in 2012, so it was indeed a delight when we spotted him in the “Magkasama Tayo Sa Kuwento ng Pasko” Christmas Station ID the following year, wherein he was among the stars who enthusiastically mingled with our Kapamilyas during the Grand Kapamilya Fair in 2013, which marked the celebration of ABS-CBN’s 60th anniversary.

For the “Thank You, Ang Babait Ninyo” Christmas Station ID in 2014, Coco showed her love and appreciation to his grandmother by expressing how grateful he is to her for guiding and supporting him throughout his life.

It can be recalled that it was in 2015 when his long-running action-drama series FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano premiered. And since it followed the story of the titular character Cardo Dalisay, who is a cop, he joined forces with his castmates in giving out shoes to our valiant soldiers, as seen in the “Thank You For The Love” Christmas Station ID.

In the next two years, he was seen handing out presents to the less privileged. For the “Isang Pamilya Tayo Ngayong Pasko” in 2016, he handed out school supplies to public school students, while for “Just Love Ngayong Christmas,” he distributed gifts to sick children.

From merely gracing the previous ABS-CBN Christmas Station IDs with his presence, Coco stepped up in 2018 as he was tapped to be one of the voices behind the “Family Is Love” anthem. He was assigned to sing the “Pag-ibig, pag-asa, at saya / ‘Yan ang lagi mong dala” in one of the choruses.

In 2019, he and his FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano family prepared an emotional surprise for the Noblezada Family from Iloilo, who was featured in last year’s Christmas Station ID, in “Family Is Forever.” The following year, Coco led the ensemble cast in bedecking a Christmas tree with parols and attending mass at a church for “Ikaw Ang Liwanag At Ligaya.”

Fans of his team-up with Julia Montes were surely thrilled to see them back together again onscreen when she became part of FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano. And we felt the same kilig when we spotted them side-by-side each other as they led their castmates in singing along and doing the hand gestures for the “Andito Tayo Para Sa Isa’t Isa” Christmas SID.

For last year’s “Tayo Ang Ligaya ng Isa’t Isa,” Coco gave a simple yet heartwarming message to every Kapamilya around the world. He sincerely delivered, “Ano man ang ating pagdaanan, hindi mawawala sa atin ang kaligayahan.

And this 2023, he is one of the Kapamilya stars who opened “Pasko Ang Pinakamagandang Kuwento” Special ID as one of its singers, along with Imogen, Vice Ganda, Regine Velasquez-Alcasid, and Piolo Pascual.

Kapamilya, which of these is your most favorite appearance of Coco Martin in an ABS-CBN Christmas ID?
